While the grappling hook was showcased in many of the pre-launch gameplay presentations for Dying Light 2, it actually isn’t something you can acquire until quite a while through the game, toward the later stages of its main storyline.

After you have reached the Central Loop region of the game, which is the larger of the two sandbox maps, you’ll begin working with the Peacekeepers, who will eventually communicate their plans to power up the radio tower at the very top of the city’s talent building: the VNC Tower and bring it online.

It is during your ascent up the VNC Tower that you begin liaising with Frank, a former leader of the Nightrunners. He’ll (reluctantly) direct you to some former Nightrunner equipment to help in your mission up the tower, which includes the grappling hook.

How to Use the Grappling Hook in Dying Light 2

The grappling hook is pretty simple to use. Follow these steps:

  1. Open your inventory menu and equip the item to your quick menu.

  2. You will now notice that as you look at different objects around the area, there is a small circle that appears.

This is your grappling target. All you need to do now is press L2/LT to shoot the grappling hook. You’ll then be able to swing backward and forward to reach further distances than a jump will allow.dying light 2 grappling hook

  3. Remember to press R1 to jump off the hook. Also do note that you can chain together jumps using the grappling hook in mid-air.
