Don’t Stop Moving

No, this is nothing to do with the hit S Club 7 song, it’s just the most important tip for any Doom Eternal player. Particularly in the latter missions, you’ll often be overwhelmed by enemies with little room to breath.

Some enemies are good from range, some will try to lock onto you, and others will try to grab you when up close. The only way to manage all of them is to stay on the move.

Make use of your double jump and any boost pads that are on the ground, but the dash is the most important ability to work into how you play. You can dash when on the ground to dodge attacks and dash when in the air to get away quickly.

Just don’t stop, even when trying to take out demons. Strafe while you’re shooting and even attack different enemies all the time, rather than focus on just one.

Doom Eternal Tips & Tricks

Learn Every Demon’s Weakness

Every Demon is dangerous but they also all have their own weaknesses. Cacodemon’s are easily taken out by the combination of a grenade in the mouth and a Glory Kill with the Plasma Rifle is extremely useful against demons with shields.

For most demons, you’ll be introduced to their weaknesses the first time you encounter them, so pay attention to what the game tells you. Learn where each one is dangerous, learn their weaknesses, and learn how to counter them.

If you don’t, you’ll find combat really tough, not knowing when to use what weapon and how to approach each demon.

We have a guide breaking down how to kill every demon in the game, so check that out.

Unlock Helpful Mods, Runes, & Perks

While some of the mods, runes, and perks in Doom Eternal might not seem particularly useful from their descriptions, some of them are must unlocks.

The runes that focus on Glory Killing, increasing how long enemies stay staggered for and how far away you can start the animation from, are vital to unlock early on as it makes getting health pickups a lot easier.

Also, focus on unlocking the mastery on your favorite Weapon Mods. Our favorite were the Heat Blast on the Plasma Rifle and the Sticky Bombs on the Heavy Cannon, both of which become extremely powerful when fully upgraded.

The Heat Blast can get you out of trouble, and when Mastered, boosts the damage of the Plasma Rifle standard rounds for a few seconds after use. It’s incredibly useful against the tough enemies in the missions towards the end of the game.

Also, when you’ve unlocked everything that you think might aid your combat skills, don’t forget about them. When the speed of the action is at its max, they can be easy to ignore, but don’t, they can really make the difference.

Manage The Fodder Demons

Fodder demons will always spawn. When in an arena battle, two of them will spawn every 30 seconds or so, so try not to just shoot them straight away.

Fodder demons are your source of health and ammo during combat, so keep them in mind. When you have some fuel and need an ammo top up, find a fodder demon and use your chainsaw on them.

When you’re low on health, find one and hit them with a round or two from your Heavy Cannon or Plasma Rifle, then Glory Kill them.

You can then go back to taking on the tougher demons with your topped up resources. When you’re running low again, two more Fodder demons should have spawned and you’ll be able to repeat the process.

This is particularly helpful against the Marauder demons at the end of the game, which are the trickiest of all of them.

Keep Switching Weapons

This ties in somewhat to the tip about knowing your enemies. Since each demon’s weakness is different, you’ll need to use different weapons at different times.

The Chaingun is best against against the Dread Knight and Hell Knight, the Ballista is best against flying demons, and the shotgun is best against the likes of the snake-like enemies.

Therefore, keep switching what weapon you’re using in combat. Don’t just run around with one weapon until you’re out of ammo, and then switch, because you can be more efficient with your ammo.

When facing a new demon, switch weapons, and then again for the next one. It’ll help you kill demons quicker and should keep most of your guns with at least some ammo for when you need it.

Explore When You Can

Finally for our Doom Eternal Tips and Tricks, yes, you’ll be kept in arenas for most of the combat sections, but Doom Eternal’s map opens up somewhat when the platforming comes into play. When it does, take a look around for hidden areas, walls that can be broken, and collectibles.

While the collectibles don’t give you very much, you can also find things like Weapon Mod bots and points to unlock more perks.

Therefore, it’s always good to explore because it will help you with combat for the rest of the game.

Also, Doom Eternal has a lot of combat encounters hidden way. There are Secret Encounters and Slayer Gates, both of which really test your combat skills. You can try and find them by going back to levels after you’ve completed the campaign, but why not work on them while you’re there.

Best of luck with Doom Eternal’s campaign. If you’re got any other tips and tricks for new players, be sure to let us know what they are in the comments down below.
