Know the Ways You Can Lose
In Dictator: Emergence, you can fail in your quest to have a long rule in a variety of different ways. The first, most obvious one, is that you lose as soon as you become bankrupt. So it’s important to always keep your funds above a certain amount to cover the costs, and be able to afford certain expenses. Another way you can lose is if you piss off a faction too much. Get them too low in their approval rating of you and they’ll launch a war on you. A third way you can lose is if a people are too happy and thriving too much thanks to you. That’s right, make a faction too happy (they reach the maximum level of X’s) and they’ll have a revolution against you. And the final way you can lose is by losing a war against your opposition, which is reliant on your army faction’s strength (approval).
Upgrade Dictorial Retirement Fund
Your Dictorial Retirement Fund is how you earn money in the game while you’re not playing it. You need to check back in to deplete it and collect what you’ve amassed, lest it won’t fill up any more. Upgrading this increases the amount you’ll be able to store in there before you need to collect it. Additionally, it carries over each game, so you won’t have to upgrade it all over again when you want to start a new game or lose the one you’re playing. It’s essentially constant cash flow for your rule, which is great because you’ll find yourself spending quite a bit if you want to stay in rule.
Don’t Let Anyone Get Too Mad
If you lose approval with a faction too much, they’ll get mad at you and overthrow your rule. Sometimes a new ruling you decide negates one X, sometimes it will be two. Sometimes, it might even be upwards of four. Yeah, it’s best not to make any faction that mad. But in the chance you’re getting factions too angry, it might be time to switch over to them and decide something that you think they’ll like. While a faction cannot be chosen twice in a row, it’s a smart choice to keep going back to them every other turn until you feel their approval rating of you is in the clear. So, remember; when the music changes and a faction’s thumbnail is suddenly red, it’s time to play nice in Dictator: Emergence.
Don’t Let Anyone Get Too Happy, Either
On the flip side, as mentioned before, you can also lose if a faction gets to the maximum approval rating. This triggers a revolution, and they’ll overthrow you. You can’t be too nice in Dictator: Emergence. It’s better that you didn’t find this out the hard way. Just keep your faction out of the golden X zone. Make them a little angry if they’re getting too full of themselves. Try to purposefully make them mad. For the most part, you’ll be in the clear. But if you start reaching that maximum row of X’s, it’s time to start riling them up a bit.
Answer How You Think Those Factions Would Like
This is a given, but you shouldn’t be adopting a plan for the People faction, and clearly be pandering to the Oligarchs. For the most part, certain factions play nice with others fairly well. The Police and the Military aren’t very buddy-buddy. Neither are the Police and the Mafia. The People tend to have the most options for universally liked choices, so it’s always good to dip in there when you’re looking for a boost for most factions, if not all. Just use a bit of logical thinking if you’re trying to impress a faction specifically. What would they like in a real life, communist country? If all else fails, use your Adviser’s insight (although it becomes a microtransaction after the initial amount Dictator: Emergence gives you) to tell you which faction will like which choice.
