Destiny 2 has had a change in management recently, which you’re likely to have heard if you follow the game in any capacity. With Bungie replacing Activision at the helm, we’re entering a new era of Destiny 2, which includes changes to its content schedule and monetization model. Here’s what you need to know about when Destiny 2 becomes free.
When Does Destiny 2 Become Free? Answered
Luckily for you, there’s absolutely no wait at all: Destiny 2 is already free across all platforms. The entire base game can be downloaded, installed, and played entirely without charge.
Destiny 2 actually went free-to-play back in June in a package that includes all main story content and all playable areas. That goes for the Moon location of Shadowkeep, too, which like other DLC areas can be visited and explored as part of the free-to-play experience.
However, if you want to try DLC story content, weapons, and new features then you will need to actually purchase the expansion. These vary in price, but Shadowkeep, for example, is $35. Forsaken, meanwhile is now $25.
Again, though, you can still go and do things like explore Shadowkeep’s Moon and engage with enemies, link up with friends who are playing there, etc without paying anything.
Hopefully, that gives you everything you need to know about Destiny becoming a free-to-play game and what’s included. For more useful tips and guides, be sure to search Twinfinite.
