Destiny 2: Is Xur in the Game?

Is Xur in Destiny 2?

Xur, Agent of Nine, has proven to be quite the important, space-faring merchant in the world of Destiny. Each and every Friday since the game’s release, this tentacle-faced being has showed up in one of the game’s social spaces in order to share his wares which include a small selection of exotics and useful consumables. To this day, almost three years after the initial launch of the game, you can still see Guardians seeking out this cloaked figure in the hopes of finding that one weapon or piece of armor that has eluded them during their journey. With Xur becoming such an important figure, it’s only natural that fans have come to wonder if the Agent of Nine will be present in Destiny 2, the upcoming sequel due out on Sept. 6. And the answer to whether or not he will be isn’t quite clear.

During an interview between Gamesbeat and Destiny 2’s executive producer Scott Taylor some time ago, the topic of Xur, the Cryptarch, and other major characters came up. While there was no clear answer to whether or not the merchant and everyone’s favorite Engram troll would be moving forward, Taylor did express that the background of Xur was something they’d want to go into, just as they did with the likes of Petra, Saladin, and Eris. “When I look at the universe of Destiny, I see a lot of opportunity to tell stories about these characters that — you look at the Cryptarch and Xur, we don’t know much about them, but they’re cool characters. I’m curious about them. I want to know more about the Cryptarch. He seems mean. What’s going on with Xur? We’re trying to create these opportunities, ” Taylor said.

While it’s far from confirmation of him being in Destiny 2, it does show that the team over at Bungie does care about the character about as much as the player base does, and that bodes well for our odd friend. We can only hope that Xur wasn’t in the Tower during Ghaul’s onslaught (looked more like a Tuesday than a Friday from our angle).

Hopefully when we need an exotic most, that familiar, obscured face will pop up behind a tractor on the farm or some other odd spot in Destiny 2. Until then, safe travels, Guardians.
