To unlock the Pit of Heresy, first make your way to Eris Morn grab the quest, The Deepening Wake.

This quest will task you with killing 20 Nightmares at the Alters of Sorrow and opening a tier III+ chest at the Altars of Sorrow. If you’re having trouble, you can check out our guide on how to beat it, but getting to Tier III+ at least shouldn’t be too hard as long as you’re not on your own.

The gist of it though is to killing the Nightmare enemies from their spawn location (various whirlwind looking spots at the Valley of Sorrow), before they reach the Alter to sacrifice themselves. If they do, you will lose time off your timer for tier that you’re on. Every enemy killed adds +1 second, and Nightmares add +10 seconds.

Once you’ve completed this step, return to Eris Morn and she will progress you along and unlock the Pit of Heresy on your director for the Moon.

Simply queue up with two of your best Destiny 2 buddies (or random people off of LFG) and give this difficult three-person Dungeon a try.

Your objective is to defeat Zulmark, Instrument of Torment. This is a 940 recommended power activity so make sure you’re at least at that level. Also there are lots of jumping puzzles in the Pit of Heresy, so maybe bring along something like St0mp−EE5 and Lion Rampant.
