Destiny 2 Essence of Brutality Quest Steps & Necromantic Strand Location

Unlocking the Quest

First off, you’ll need to actually unlock and get yourself the quest. Fortunately, you don’t need to worry about doing anything particularly special to unlock it. All you need to do is complete three of the other ‘Essence of’ quests, get three pieces of Dreambane armor, and then enter the Pyramid.

After doing this and finishing this story quest, you’ll then receive the Essence of Brutality quest.

Completing Activities on the Moon

The first part of this multi-step quest requires players to complete activities on the Moon. There really isn’t a whole lot that needs to be said about this. Simply go ahead and complete bounties, public events, patrols, and Lost Sectors and you’ll begin working towards this.

Hand Cannon Kills

Another straightforward part of Destiny 2’s Essence of Brutality quest in Shadowkeep, you’ll now need to rack up 50 Hand Cannon kills. These can be with whatever hand cannon you choose.

We recommend using a hand cannon to kill any enemies as you’re completing activities on the Moon for the first part of this quest. That way, you’re killing two birds with one stone.

Finding the Necromantic Strand

Now here comes the tricky bit. The Necromantic Strand we’re told can be found in the Hall of Wisdom. First off, make your way to the Archer’s Line location on the Moon and then head northeast from here to find the Hall of Wisdom.

You’ll know you’ve found it as it’s got an ominous-looking green icon above the door, and there’s a green glow emanating from inside the doorway.

Make your way down these ledges and then look out for a pure white light torch thing on your left. When you reach this, continue heading down this stairway and you should see another of these white lights illuminating the darkness. We’re about halfway towards the Necromantic Strand location.

At this point, you should see ‘Hall of Wisdom’ appear in the bottom left-corner of the screen, and you’ll go through a small gap in the wall. Proceed through here, and you should see a large glowing needly thing sticking out the ceiling. We’ve included a screenshot below.

At this point, you should then see a little marker appear in-game automatically somewhere just below this glowing thing in the ceiling. Defeat the enemies just in front of it and then make your way towards the marker. The Necromantic Strand will be waiting for you on the floor.

Press Square on PS4, X on Xbox One, or G on PC to pick it up and complete the quest.

Loud Lullaby Perks & Info

Destiny 2 Loud Lullaby

After you’ve got the Necromantic Strand and completed the Essence of Brutality quest, simply return to the Lectern of Enchantment and you’ll then be free to turn in the quest and get yourself the Loud Lullaby Legendary Hand Cannon as your reward. It comes with random rolls like most other guns.

That’s everything you need to know on where to find the Necromantic Strand in Destiny 2’s Essence of Brutality quest. For more tips, tricks, and guides, be sure to check out our Destiny 2 Shadowkeep guide wiki. We’ve also included more Shadowkeep guides below for your convenience.
