How to Charge and Use Your Super in Destiny 2

Recommended Videos

Destiny 2 provides players with a lot of different ways of coming out of tough situations. You have various guns, tons of different armor, mods, grenades, class abilities, interesting powers, and, of course, Supers. Supers are powerful abilities that can turn the tide in battle and help you take on seemingly insurmountable challenges. The Super for each subclass is unique, so you’ll need to play with them to really get a feel for what they can do, but they all activate the same.

Before you can activate your Super, you must first charge it. This is done in several ways:

  • Over Time – Your Super meter, the yellow meter near your ammo count and ability cooldowns, slowly charges over time in Destiny 2, and we mean really slowly.
  • Getting Kills – Killing enemies provides Super energy in Destiny 2.
  • Picking Up Orbs – If an ally kills something with their Super, Orbs of Light are generated. Picking these up provides a large chunk of Super energy. Do note that the orbs disappear if you die.

It’s worth noting that certain pieces of gear and abilities help to make your powerful ability charge faster in Destiny 2. Some will make melee abilities charge your power, others grenades, and others simply by having allies nearby. Keep an eye out for any of these pieces that fit your playstyle.

Once you have it all charged, it’s easy to pull off. Simply press R1+L1 on the PS4 or RB+LB on the Xbox One. This will trigger a quick animation and activate the ability. Not all are built the same, though. Some are instant attacks (like the Voidwalkers Nova Bomb), but most are temporary states (like the Arcstrider’s Arc Staff). You can check your character menu to see what special abilities each has (which is dependent on your Attunement).
