Demon’s Souls can be a confusing game, and what little direction players are given can oftentimes be esoteric. One such example is finding the Monumental, who can be a little tricky to track down. Let’s take a look at where to find the Monumental in Demon’s Souls.
Where to find the Monumental in Demon’s Souls
The Monumental is an NPC in Demon’s Souls that players will need to speak to fairly early on in order to progress further in the game.
Located in the Nexus, the Monumental can be a little tricky to find, just because of the labyrinthine nature of the hub world.
After you defeat Phalanx, the boss at the end of the Gates of Boletaria, you will return to the Nexus, and the Maiden in Black will direct you to speak with the Monumental.
The only direction that she gives is that “the Monumental awaits thee, above”. She fails to describe who or what the Monumental is, let alone where it is located.
The Nexus can be a little tricky to navigate, but fear not, the Monumental is actually quite close by. Position yourself where you were when the game began, facing the giant statue in the center of the room.
Blacksmith Baldwin and the Crestfallen Warrior will be off to your left. From this position, ascend the large winding staircase to your right (either is actually fine, as they come to the same place, but for the purpose of this guide, take the stairs on the right).
Once you reach the landing, you will see an open area with a shrine, but continue onwards and proceed up the next flight of stairs to find the Monumental.
At the top of these stairs, you will see a doorway. Enter the passage beyond and proceed up yet more stairs, and around halfway up there will be another doorway off to your right.
It’s actually really easy to miss, due to the winding nature of the stairway, but you will see the head of this massive statue clearly through it. Proceed forward and take a left, following the alcove around.
You will notice the mummified remains of child-like monks arrayed facing towards the statue. The Monumental is the only one that is still alive, although it is quite easy to miss. Its eyes will follow your movements, which is kind of creepy, but a dead giveaway.
Simply speak to it to initiate a short cutscene, and voila, the game will open up and you can get back to the business of slaying demons.
