How to Increase Soul Level in Demon’s Souls

New players to the series might be quite surprised to find that you can’t actually increase your level in Demon’s Souls until you reach a certain point in the game, potentially several hours in.

You will only be able to do this once you have defeated Phalanx, the game’s first boss, who is encountered at the end of the Gates of Boletaria area. For more on that, check out our handy Phalanx boss guide.

Once defeated, you will be prompted to warp back to the Nexus, the area that serves as Demon’s Souls hub world.

There, speak to the ominous Maiden in Black, and she will grant you the ability to increase your Soul Level.

The Maiden in Black can be found in multiple locations inside the Nexus, and seems to shift positions each time you warp back. If you have trouble locating her, just warp out and back in again.

Increasing your Soul Level in Demon’s Souls functions similarly to leveling up in other RPG’s. You spend the Souls you get from defeating enemies on increasing one of your main stats like Strength or Vitality, and each point spent raises your overall Soul Level.

Each new level costs progressively more Souls, so you should think carefully before investing each point, and be prepared to do some grinding.

The real depth of Demon’s Souls is the incredible amount of build variety offered, although it is worth keeping in mind that you cannot reset any allocated points, so make sure you have an idea of the kind of character you want to play before committing!

That’s everything you need to know about how to increase your Soul Level in Demon’s Souls. For the latest news and other helpful guides, we’ve got you covered right here.
