In addition to gunplay, Colt can call on several unique abilities that help better eliminate enemies and traverse around Blackreef. These abilities are called Slabs. There are six of them, and excluding one that is given to you right at the very start of the game (Reprise), are harvested from the bodies of fallen Visionaries you have assassinated. One of the best in the game allows Colt to teleport short distances. Here’s how to get Shift in Deathloop.
How to Get Shift in Deathloop
Shift is acquired after you have killed Charlie, the loopy Visionary who can be found in Updaam, hidden within the confines of his bizarre IRL RPG called Condition Detachment. This is a game he designed to entertain the citizens of Blackreef for eternity, and something he’s obsessively proud of.
Condition Detachment is one of the game’s hardest areas to navigate. It’s a maze of different levels, each containing dozens of Eternalists. Charlie is right at the very top, and he’s actually using his Shift ability to zip around from point to point shouting his ramblings. Killing him stealthily is tricky, especially without the Shift Slab, but it is possible. We have a detailed guide here.
Once you’ve taken him out, you can grab the Shift Slab and equip it. Remember, always Infuse your Slabs at the close of each day so that you ensure you’ll have it for the next run. Further, you can always come back to Condition Detachment and kill Charlie again to grab another Shift Slab to use as an upgrade. All Slabs can be upgraded several times.
