If you’re new to Dark Souls III, you may find that you’re having trouble jumping. In order to do so, you’ll have to use a slightly different button combination than what you may be used to. Here’s how to jump and get to those difficult places around the world of Dark Souls III.
How to Jump in Dark Souls 3
Okay, so first off, you’re going to want to start running. To do so, hold down the Circle or B button on your PS4 or Xbox One controller respectively. Once you’ve got your character running, then simply press L3 (press down on the left thumb stick). With any luck, your character should leap a little into the air.
The jump is best used for getting a bit of extra distance when leaping off of high ledges or avoiding the many attacks that will be coming your way throughout your journey.
When Should You Use Jump?
Honestly, in combat, it’s very rare that you’ll want to jump instead of using a dodge or simply sprinting away to avoid enemy attacks, but it is quite useful when it comes to traversing the world, either for skipping out sections of the ‘main route’ that might take a long time or cost you a lot of Souls, or just for speedrunning purposes.
For example, you might want to grab the Estus Shard located above the Firelink Shrine, but you don’t want to pay the 20,000 Souls to get the Tower Key in order to reach it. With the use of the jump, you can find a tree to the right of the structure, run up it and jump onto the roof of the shrine to grab the Estus Shard without having tp spend all your Souls.
