What You Need to Do to Drift Around Corners in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled

Getting a boost by drifting isn’t a simple as it is in Mario Kart. You need to do more than just hop and turn until you go faster.

In Crash Team Racing, you first need to turn sharply as you’re about go into a corner. It might mean turning away from a corner at first, but you’ll be able to swing the car back around to the right direction.

You then need to press either R1 or L1 if you’re playing on PlayStation 4 (RB or LB if you’re on Xbox One) to hop as you turn back into the corner, which will start the drift.

To get the boost, you need to keep hold of the button you’ve used to activate the drift. Then, you need to keep an eye on the boost bar in the bottom right of the screen.

Before it fills up, you need to press the other drift button (whichever one you’re not holding of the two shoulder buttons), with you getting more boost by pressing it closer to the end of the bar.

You can do this up the three times, all while holding the initial drift button. In short, you need to press drift while turning, then press the second button before the boost bar fills up, doing it successfully three times to get the full boost possible.

As the game points out after you’ve completed a few of the races in Adventure Mode, you can see when to press the second button by smoke coming from your kart’s tires, but looking at the boost bar as much as you can allows you to be more accurate with getting the most boost.

Once you’ve done it three times, or however many you feel you’re able to in one turn, let go of all the buttons and you’ll race off ahead at a higher speed, allowing you to get away from the other racers around you.

That’s everything you need to know about how to drift in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. For more tips and tricks on the game, be sure to check out our wiki guide.
