If you’ve been searching for a new Souls-like action RPG to dive into, Code Vein might very well be the answer. It draws a lot of inspiration from the Souls series, including a stamina-based combat system, recursive level design, and tough bosses to test your mettle against. Here’s how to block attacks in Code Vein.
How to Block Attacks in Code Vein
Our primary recommendation for avoiding enemy damage in this game will always be to dodge. That’s because the blocking function in Code Vein isn’t always ideal for both your health and stamina meters, and you’re usually better off backing away from attacks anyway.
However, there may be situations where it’d be better to block an attack and minimize damage taken, just in case you don’t have enough time to dodge, or enough space to maneuver around your enemies.
To block attacks in Code Vein, all you have to do is hold down the L1 button. This will allow your character to hold their weapon up in a defensive stance and absorb some damage. However, blocking attacks will still cause you to take a bit of damage.
Heavier weapons like two-handed swords or axes seem to have better defense ratings, which might make blocking more effective, but you’ll still have to eat some damage.
One other thing to be aware of is that just like in the Souls games, holding down the block button will cause your stamina to regenerate slower, and it’s definitely possible for enemies to break your guard by whacking away at you as you block. Be wary of that, and let down your guard whenever you have an opening to get away.
That’s all you need to know about how to block enemy attacks in Code Vein. Be sure to search for Twinfinite or check our Code Vein guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
