In Civilization VI, one of the most important currencies that aren’t directly related to a specific win condition is Gold. Like in real-life, while you don’t just automatically win for being the richest, it does make achieving your goals that much easier. In Civ 6, having lots of gold will help you in building up your military, purchasing resources, or speeding up construction. In this guide, we’ll go over how to get more trade routes in Civ 6, a key way to ensure that gold continues to fill your coffers every turn.
How to Get More Trade Routes in Civ 6
Establishing trade routes is a key mechanic in Civ 6. Whether you’re doing it to create roads and connect cities across long distances, either within your empire or within another Civ, or doing it to make some money, you’re going to want to get trade routes going as soon as possible.
You are allowed one trade route per city once you’ve built a Market or Lighthouse in that city. So, if you want to get even more, you’re going to need to establish new cities and create Markets or Lighthouses. They do not stack, so building both does not get you two.
However, there are other ways to boost the maximum number of trade routes you can have aside from city development in case you’re worried about your Civ becoming too large. Certain Wonders, such as The Colossus and Great Zimbabwe, will increase the number of trade routes, as well the recruitment of Great Merchants, as do the perks of various Civ leaders such as Mansa Musa (Mali) and Queen Victoria (England).
