Gearbox Software’s popular looter shooter game will be making a return this week with the release of Borderlands 3. As these games are typically best enjoyed with a friend or three, you might be wondering if there’s any cross platform play functionality in Borderlands 3. Here’s what you need to know about that.
Is There Cross Platform Play in Borderlands 3?
The short, and sad, answer is no, Borderlands will not feature any form of cross platform play at launch. This means that depending on which platform you get the game on, you can only play it with other Borderlands 3 players on that same platform.
However, there is some good news. Even though there won’t be any cross-play features available for the game when it launches this week, Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford has tweeted, stating that the company is committed to making cross-play a possibility for Borderlands 3 players as soon as they can.
This tweet was made back in July, where Pitchford stated that they wanted to support cross-play “with [their] partners as soon as practicable after launch.”
Of course, there’s no timeline on this just yet, and we have no idea when this feature will be implemented in the game. Even so, it’s still good to know that the developers are at least thinking about putting the feature in the game, and that we’ll eventually get it… at some point.
For now, though, you’ll just have to make do with enjoying the game with your friends (or online strangers) who are on the same platform as you are.
That’s all you need to know about cross platform play in Borderlands 3. Be sure to search for Twinfinite or check our Borderlands 3 guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
