How to Beat Zangetsu in Bloodstained Ritual of the Night
Zangetsu is the second boss you’ll face in the game, and the first real difficulty spike that’s likely to give new players a bit of a hard time.
However, his patterns are actually fairly easy to read, and once you get a hang of his moves, you’ll be able to counter him in no time at all.
Phase 1
There are a few basic moves you need to be aware of. First, Zangetsu will ready his sword whenever he’s about to dash towards you. It can be tempting to try to jump over him; however, it’s better to run away and jump away from him instead.
If you choose to jump over him, there’s a chance that Zangetsu will turn around immediately and catch you in the jump.
He also has a jumping sword slam that will definitely catch you if you try to jump over him. When he jumps up, jump away from him instead before going in for a few hits.
When Zangetsu grapples to the ceiling, you’ll want to get behind him immediately as he’ll slam down on the ground and decimate everything in front of him. This move has quite a bit of range to it, so you’ll want to get behind him to stay safe.
When Zangetsu taunts you with his arm, he’ll hold up his sword in front of him. When he does this, you can’t attack him from the front, so jump behind him and attack him from there.
Lastly, Zangetsu can throw a single dagger at you, but this is very easily dodged.
Phase 2
When you’ve damaged him enough, Zangetsu will imbue his sword with flames, allowing him to deal more damage. However, all his sword moves are exactly the same as they were in the first phase, with just one exception.
When he does the grapple move, staying behind him won’t necessarily keep you safe from the slam attack, as the fire allows him to catch you if you’re directly behind him. Because of this, you should still get behind him when he does the grapple, but you need to put more distance between you and him.
