The first entry our list of the best splitscreen PS4 games is A Way Out, a game which places a huge emphasis on splitscreen gameplay. The game has to be played co-op, with each player taking control of a character each.

A Way Out tells the story of two prisoners who attempt a prison break. There’s a heavy emphasis on story-telling throughout, with each character having their own distinct arc.

It’s a great game to play with a friend, even if they’re not the biggest gamer in the world. The controls are simple and intuitive enough to grasp quickly and the difficulty is pretty forgiving.

You’ll be hard pressed to find another game of this scope and size, which is also designed to be played splitscreen, and for that, it is definitely worth your time and is one of the best splitscreen PS4 games you can play right now.

Divinity: Original Sin 1 & 2

Best Splitscreen PS4 Games

It’s not often that you get to play a huge RPG in splitscreen co-op but in Divinity: Original Sin you can do just that.  Update: Divinity Original Sin 2 is now out as well, and they are both among the best splitscreen PS4 games, and just in general as well.

The great thing about the game is that you and another player can inhabit the same world, but do not necessarily have to adventure together. When two players are on screen together, the split screens merge together. If you want to go off on your own though, you can do exactly that.

Each player can select their own difficulty, suiting a variety of play styles. Teaming up is definitely worth it though, as you can combine your powers in the game’s dynamic turn-based combat, becoming much more powerful than you’d be alone.

Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition offers over 100 hours of content for players to explore, a figure unmatched by the majority of splitscreen experiences.

Call of Duty: WWII

Best Splitscreen PS4 Games

Last year’s entry in the Call of Duty franchise, is still very popular in 2018, and is one of the best splitscreen PS4 games. It continues the tradition of offering up excellent splitscreen modes.

Players can jump into either regular multiplayer matches or Nazi Zombies. The Nazi Zombies mode in Call of Duty: WWII is one of the best in recent years, being a decidedly more horror-focused affair than usual.

Although the splitscreen is only two players, down from the four seen in other games, the Nazi Zombie mode combined with some of the amazing WWII maps that feature in the game more than make it worth your while.

Don’t Starve Together

Best Splitscreen PS4 Games

Don’t Starve Together is the standalone multiplayer expansion of the uncompromising wilderness survival game, Don’t Starve and it has long been known as being of the best splitscreen PS4 games you can find.

In Don’t Starve Together, the main goal is survival. Players must gather resources, build shelter and defeat enemies, all the while making sure they are well fed, rested and hydrated.

It isn’t easy living in such a horrifying world though, and repeating the same tasks over and over will drastically affect your character’s sanity. The game includes the Reign of Giants expansion, and can be played as a co-op or competitive experience.

Rocket League

Best Splitscreen PS4 Games

Rocket League set the PlayStation community ablaze when it launched back in 2015. It remains one of the best splitscreen ps4 games on the console to this day, thanks largely to its simple and rewarding gameplay.

For the uninitiated, Rocket League is essentially soccer with RC cars, with the player guiding a giant ball into the opposition’s goal.

Splitscreen mode allows two friends to either team up or face off against each other. You can either play against bots or against others online, with each player having their own XP level and unlockable items.

Lego Marvel Superheroes 2

Best Splitscreen PS4 Games

The Lego games have always been a blast to play with a friend. Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 is exactly that, allowing players to choose from a huge roster of heroes from the iconic to the downright obscure.

There’s Howard the Duck, Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers, all with their own move sets and fully-voiced dialogue.

It’s possible to play the entire game, start to finish, with a buddy in tow, as you battle to defeat Kang the Conqueror and his evil goons, and is definitely among the best PS4 splitscreen games.

Honestly, many Lego games deserve a spot on this list but with this being one of the latest and greatest, it’s an excellent choice.

GT Sport

Best Splitscreen PS4 Games

Racing games have been a splitscreen staple since the dawn of video games (well, almost), so this list wouldn’t be complete without one of the best splitscreen PS4 games, GT Sport.

GT Sport is a racing simulation fan’s dream, featuring some of the best graphics in the business and a handling system that is near unmatched. Predictably, it’s also brilliant to play with a friend, as the Grand Turismo series always has been.

Minecraft

Best Splitscreen PS4 Games

It’s a testament to just how great Minecraft is that we’re still talking about it in 2018. The game is perfect for splitscreen co-op, with so many possibilities available to each player. You can jump into Creation Mode and build something with a pal.

Maybe a huge castle? Maybe Avengers Tower? The sky really is the limit. The splitscreen acts as an addition to the main game so you don’t lose anything by bringing a friend into the fray.

ARK: Survival Evolved

Best Splitscreen PS4 Games

The world of ARK: Survival Evolved is an extremely formidable one. Playing on your own often means getting killed by enemy players, who then go on to destroy all of your hard work by blowing up your shelter.

A much more friendly way to play the game is through splitscreen. You and a friend can explore the world, build shelters and craft new items together.  You’ll get all of the advantages of playing with another person, without the downsides of PvP play.

There are certain limitations to splitscreen play, in that players must stay within 200m of each other, and the graphics are a little scaled down. The core gameplay is still there though, and it’s a lot of fun.

Slowly conquering the prehistoric landscape is a joy to behold, and there’s plenty of hilarity to be had with another player in the picture.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection

Best Splitscreen PS4 Games

If it’s a splitscreen arcade-shooter you’re after, there aren’t many better than Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. The game bundles together Borderlands 2, as well as Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, all into one package.

The co-op component of the series has always been excellent, with up to four players able to drop in and out of a session. Each player gets their own character to customize and level up, with a surprising amount of variety available.

Despite the fact that the can be split into four separate screens, it runs incredibly smoothly. It’s all so reminiscent of PS4 splitscreen shooter experiences from the PS2 generation, a feeling that many modern titles sadly seem to neglect.

That does it for our list of the best splitscreen PS4 games you can play right now! Grab some friends and get ready. If you’re interested in knowing the best splitscreen Xbox One games, those are over here!
