Know Your Enemy – Trait-Based Resistances And Weaknesses

The combat in Skyrim is quite possibly one of the weakest parts of the game, with there being very little in the way of variety. Generally, you can breeze through the game armed with a single levelled-up weapon, which does large damage to all enemy types. This mod makes things a lot more interesting, adding resistance and susceptibility of different creatures to different types of damage. It forces you to start thinking about which weapon to use against a particular enemy, and gives the game a much more tactical element. It adds a series of traits to each enemy, like the undead trait which grants an inherent resistant to shock damage, for example.

Each trait is given its own loading screen in the game, which will give hints on what it entails. For any adventurer looking to spice up the combat and make things a little more challenging, it’s a great way to go. It’s currently available for Xbox One.

Super Safe Dwarven Rocket Boots

Best Skyrim Mods of April 2018

While intricate gameplay tweaks are always a welcome addition to the world of Skyrim, it’s the wackier ones which often end up being the most fun. This is demonstrated beautifully by this mod which equips your character with rocket boots, Dwarven of course. You certainly won’t be giving Tony Stark a run for his money anytime soon, given how unwieldy these are to control. Less a mode of transport than a fun way to traverse huge vertical areas while looking damn cool as you do it, these rocket boots are a fun way of exiting battles and surveying the area around you. As with anything rocket-powered, be sure to handle with care.

You can check out the boots on either PC or Xbox One.

Summonable Wolf Pack

Have you ever been in a sticky situation in Skyrim and wish you could summon a pack of demonic wolves to assist you? Of course you have. Well with this mod, you can do exactly that, with four different wolves coming to your rescue at the press of a button. The pack is made up of an alpha wolf, an ice wolf, a regular old wolf and a wolf guardian spirit (basically a ghost wolf, awesome). The pack is summoned by using a tome, which can be located in the Silver-Blood Inn in Makarth.

The mod is available for PC, Xbox One and PS4.

Improved Closed-Faced Helmets

Skyrim is host to its fair share of awesome armor. One thing that can be a little jarring though, is how helmets function in the game. Given that there are many races, each a different shape and size from the others, helmets sometimes just don’t look right, often completely shielding a character’s face. This mod fixes that, adding in a bunch of great custom helmet designs. The best thing about them is that they feature actual eye sockets and gaps so you can see your character’s face properly. It’s a small tweak but definitely adds a lot to the immersion of the game. There is a different helmet model for each race in the game, and as long as they don’t alter them at the mesh level, players can add texture packs on top of them.

The Improved Closed Helmets mod is available on Xbox One.

Blast Them!

Some of the best Skyrim mods of all time have been Star Wars related. So far we’ve seen Ewoks, lightsabers and Vader noises, but this mod adds in blaster fire to the game’s regular weapons. You can now fire blaster bolts from crossbows, staffs and other weapons, with enemies being set ablaze on a direct hit. The new weapons will one-shot low level enemies, and make an awesome spell-casting sound with each shot fired. They can be upgraded, and the modder is currently working on a new feature where certain NPCs will spawn with the blaster weapons equipped.

The Blast Them! mod can be picked up on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Dwarven Aetherial Bow

Best Skyrim Mods of April 2018

best skyrim mods april 2018

This mod adds in an awesome Dwarven bow to the game. It may not look like much while it sits in your inventory, but using it causes a huge holographic circle to appear around the handle. Having it holstered looks great, given that the bow has an idle animation, with its handle spinning as you walk. The Dwarven Aetherial Bow can fire any ammo in the game, and also comes with its own set. It functions more like a shotgun than a bow, firing off multiple bullets in a single shot in a fairly wide spread pattern. The bow is pretty powerful as Skyrim weapons go, though the mod author has noted that they are likely going to balance it further in the future.

This mod is available on Xbox One.

Gray’s Lilmothiit

Best Skyrim Mods of April 2018

best skyrim mods 2018 april

Skyrim launched with ten different races for players to choose from. Since then, thanks to some amazing modding, the game now features hundreds, with new races being added in every single month. The coolest one we found in April was Gray’s Lilmothiit. These furry creatures are variants on the Khajiit race, but with with a more Fox-like appearance. There are male and female character models to choose from, with the race being described as ‘a nomadic tribal group, who left few enduring signs of their existence. They founded the settlement of Blackrose, the ruins of which were later turned into a prison by the Akaviri Potentate Versidue-Shaie in the Second Era.’ All armor sets and helmets that work on Khajiits will work for the Lilmothiit, as will lycanthropy and vampirism.

You can download the foxy new creatures on Xbox One.

Mannimarco Follower

You might recognize Mannimarco from the ESO launch cinematic trailer. Well now you can have him accompany you on your adventures in Skyrim. You’ll have to install the RDO – Relationship Dialogue Overhaul mod in order to give him realistic follower-style dialogue, and for those looking to marry the pretty boy, you’re going to need to grab the Marriage Voice Types Plus mod. In combat he functions much like you’d expect him to, given how he moves in the trailer. He can raise the dead, and mostly focuses on Alteration and Restoration spells.

You can install this mod on Xbox One.
