The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Best Nintendo Games

Most Switch owners who have had the console ever since its initial launch back in 2017 will tell you that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a must-play title.

Breath of the Wild has set a new benchmark for open-world adventure games while also switching up the traditional Zelda formula that’s been stagnant for over 20 years now.

Exploring the open world of Hyrule and all of its nooks and crannies is something extraordinary in Breath of the Wild as it rewards you for doing literally anything.

There are tons of secrets to uncover, puzzle shrines to complete, weapons to acquire (and then break), and just so much magic to be found in this living, breathing world.

As far as best Nintendo games go, Breath of the Wild is certainly on the top of the list for most.

Super Mario Odyssey

Best Nintendo Games

2017 was an incredible year for Nintendo fans. They got the Switch, Breath of the Wild, and Super Mario Odyssey, one of the greatest 3D platformers ever created.

Once again, the story follows Bowser as he has kidnapped Princess Peach, and you know the rest. This time though, the dude is actually trying to marry the princess with the help of some rabbit wedding planners. It’s a ridiculous premise with even more ridiculous locales for Mario to explore alongside his friendly cap.

Ranking all of the kingdoms was very hard because there’s really no “bad” kingdoms in this game. Sure, some were lacking compared to the best ones, but each one has its own flavor and style, bringing something to the table in terms of originality.

Controlling Mario in a 3D space has never felt better, and thanks to the abundance of moons collect, you can find yourself spending dozens of hours with this game.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Best Nintendo Games

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe isn’t a brand-new entry in the wild kart racing series, but it takes Mario Kart 8 and throws in a bunch of content in one single bundle of fun for the Switch.

It’s kart racing at its finest with the most varied levels, insane power-ups, and even some characters from other Nintendo properties like Splatoon and Animal Crossing.

It’s a love letter to Nintendo’s history, and since we might be waiting a while for the next numbered Mario Kart entry, there’s so much content here to dig into in the meantime.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Best Nintendo Games

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the fighting game crossover that shouldn’t even exist. It features iconic video game characters like Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario, Pac-Man, Solid Snake, Banjo-Kazooie, and many more.

This is the only fighting game that can bring together such a variety of characters and since it launched in 2018, Nintendo has been supporting it like madmen.

There are new updates added every few months, along with new DLC characters like the recently added Steve from Minecraft –yeah, this game is bonkers.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Best Nintendo Games

2020 hasn’t been the best year for very obvious reasons but thanks to the massive launch of Animal Crossing: New Horizons this year, many people found a way to forget about the crappy things going on in the real world and instead worried about how to decorate their fictional private island.

New Horizons only expands upon the franchise that’s been around for about 20 years now, adding in plenty of customization options that any creative spirit would be pleased by.

Being able to connect with friends online and participate in a bunch of fun activities never gets old. You can go fishing, hunt for bugs, swim in the ocean, have a fashion show, lounge on the beach, or really anything else that you can possibly think of.

Best Nintendo Games

Zelda games are mostly known for having a story that involves a young boy named Link who must rescue a princess named Zelda by defeating a legendary evil wizard named Ganon, but Link’s Awakening tells a different tale altogether.

After being washed up on a mysterious island named Koholint, where Link meets a young girl named Marin. Link has to eventually wake up the Wind Fish to save the island by collecting certain magical instruments.

This remake faithfully reimagines the Game Boy classic, turning Link and friends into almost toy-like characters.

Everything is adorable and cute, with challenging bosses and tricky dungeons to keep you occupied for quite some time.

It may sound very strange from the get-go, but you’ll soon realize that this secretly one of the greatest Zelda stories ever told.

Pokemon Sword & Shield

Best Nintendo Games

Pokemon Sword and Shield bring forth a new era of Pokemon to the Switch, introducing an entirely new region of pocket monsters to collect and train.

Each town is brimming with personality, the gym leaders are just bursting with style and character, and the monster designs are just on-point this time around.

Sword and Shield may be lacking that high challenge level that Poke-veterans crave, but this is still a great Pokemon adventure that’s perfect for newcomers.
