Battletoads is back! The iconic retro-classic known for its punishingly difficult levels and frenetic action is born again with a new, modern take on the franchise. Best of all, you can experience the madness with your buddies. But is there online multiplayer in Battletoads or is it limited to local modes? Here’s what you need to know.
Does Battletoads Have Online Multiplayer? Answered
Unfortunately, those wanting to play with friends online will be disappointed to learn that Battletoads only supports couch co-op. That means you’ll only be able to have them join you if they’re able to physically come to your house and play alongside you.
How to Play Local Multiplayer
If you are able to organize a local gaming session with your friends then at least playing multiplayer in Battletoads is super easy. The game supports drop-in/drop-out couch co-op that’s as simple as having a buddy press the menu button on a connected Xbox One controller. They’ll then instantly appear in-game and you’ll be ready to take on the game together.
Is Online Multiplayer Coming Soon?
As for whether Battletoads is set to receive any sort of online multiplayer, we’ve no news to suggest that’s the case yet.
At the moment, nothing has been announced and there’s no reason for us to believe that’s likely to change. Of course, if enough players voice an interest in the mode, then it could be patched into the game moving forward, but don’t hold your breath.
Sorry if that wasn’t the news you wanted to hear, but that’s everything there is to know about whether Battletoads has online multiplayer. For more tips and information on the game, do check out Twinfinite’s extensive guide wiki.
