As soon as you see an enemy block your strike, all you have to do to get around their defense is hold down B. Doing so charges up a Smash Hit.

Release the B button, and you’ll break through the enemy’s block easily. This either defeats or stuns the enemy, opening them up to normal attacks.

Smash Hits do significant damage, usually knocking out weaker enemies in one punch on lower difficulties and stunning others. Its primary purpose is for breaking defenses, though.

That shouldn’t keep you from using it as a tool in your arsenal, as using it alongside strikes results in some deadly combinations that can clear out an entire area.
