Astral Chain is the latest title from the action masters at Platinum Games. You play as a police officer in a post-apocalyptic world, fighting to stave off a cataclysmic threat from another dimension. Considering Platinum’s past, you might be wondering if Astral Chain is open world, so here’s your answer.
Is Astral Chain Open World?
The short answer is, no, Astral Chain isn’t open world, but there is a bit of a caveat to that. The game takes place across 12 different Files, which basically function like chapters.
While you will be linearly playing through these chapters, there are a lot of options for exploration. Sometimes you’ll be dropped into an open environment, like Harmony Square, where you can complete a bunch of quests, find hidden items, and more.
This is especially true whenever you explore the Astral Plane, as it’s jam-packed with little alternate pathways and hidden items.
Because of this make sure you don’t just follow your marker when in the Astral Plane, as there are plenty of little secrets and bonuses for you to uncover along the way.
So, while the game isn’t open world, you definitely won’t just be running a straight line throughout the game.
The other aspect to all this, is that you can go back at any time and replay previous Files you’ve already completed, with all of the items and Legions you’ve unlocked.
You can replay your files by heading to your personal PC in the Neuron HQ, then choosing the File Select option. Just be aware that you’ll lost all progress in your current File if you do that.
After you beat each File you’ll also unlock the Pt Ultimate difficulty, letting you replay Files with more of a challenge.
Hopefully, this clears things up a bit on if Astral Chain is open world. For even more tips, tricks, and guides, make sure to check out our Astral Chain guide wiki. We’ve also listed some other helpful guides for you down below.
