Just as in Origins and Odyssey before it, the modern-day, sci-fi elements of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s story take a back seat to the historical stuff, which is this time in England during the 9th Century. Still, the complex lore of the series that many fans adore is certainly weaved into the plot in clever ways, though it can still get a little heavy-handed and confusing. Here we’re going to provide a full Assassin’s Creed Valhalla story summary and ending explained article to serve as a handy reference if you get lost. Let’s dive in.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Story Summary
Note: This Assassin’s Creed Valhalla story summary is based on a male playthrough of Eivor. This does not affect any story outcomes, but you will notice that we refer to Eivor as masculine, which is simply out of convenience. Both male and female versions of the character are canon.
It should also be noted that some key story decisions we made during our playthrough have impacted the outcome of various plot points. The overall story, however, more or less plays out the same.
Prologue, Norway
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla begins with players taking control of Eivor as a child during a feast. It’s clear from the start that Eivor is the son of a Jarl, a chieftain. Unfortunately, the feast is interrupted by an attack from the rogue Viking warlord, Kjotve the Cruel.
This ends with the destruction of Eivor’s village and the execution of his father, which is particularly upsetting to Eivor given that Vikings always prefer to die in battle with their axe so as to guarantee a spot in Valhalla.
In fleeing the village, Eivor falls onto an ice-covered lake and is attacked by Wolves. He only barely escapes with his life, which earns him the title “Wolf-kissed.”
Fast forward twenty or so years and Eivor has been taken under his wing by King Styrbjorn of the Raven Clan.
Eivor is ever-keen to take his revenge on Kjovte, and the very first time we see him as a man he has just lost a battle with Kjovte and is himself about to be killed. Luckily, though, he makes his escape and though he isn’t able to locate Kjovte, he does recover his father’s axe with the help of Dag.
As he touches the axe, Eivor has a vision of Odin and a wolf.
After sailing back to his home, Fornburg, Styrbjorn laments that Eivor’s obsession with revenge risks open war — a fight they cannot win.
Eivor visits Valka the Seer who gives him a hallucinogenic broth that invokes yet another vision — this time, it shows Sigurd missing an arm before a giant wolf attacks them. This is interpreted by Valka as foreboding a future betrayal that Eivor will make.
The next day, Styrbjorn’s son Sigurd then returns from a two-year-long raid, bearing gifts and accompanied by two foreign men, Bassim and Hytham.
Later, during a party, the foreigners introduce Eivor to a mechanical blade device, which players will recognize as the hidden blade. They speak of a clan called The Hidden Ones and allude to helping control nefarious activities across the world considered assassinations.
The very next day, Sigurd declares that he and Eivor will seek out Kjotve and make him pay for his crimes, even despite Styrbjorn’s wishes. They mount a raid on Kjotve’s fort and successfully defeat him.
Bassim and Hytham join the fight, revealing just before that they actually traveled to Norway specifically to eliminate Kjotve, who is a member of The Order — the same nefarious organization seen in Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey.
However, they only win the day thanks to the help of King Harald, who has pledged his forces at the behest of Styrbjorn. It later turns out that Styrbjorn intends to seed his power to Harald, who has intentions of becoming the first King of all Norway.
News of Styrbjorn’s intentions are upsetting to Sigurd, who believes his future has been stolen from him. He wishes to leave for pastures greener and sail for England alongside Eivor.
There they will forge their own dynasty. Bassim and Hytham will join them, though Eivor very clearly finds their interest in Sigurd a little strange.
Players are presented with a story choice as to whether to take or leave Styrbjorn’s supplies as they journey to England. Stealing them has negative consequences to the story later, though they aren’t especially dire.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Story Summary
England – Ledercesterscire, Mercia, and East Anglia
In England, Sigurd and Eivor start Ravensthorpe, a small settlement in the Kingdom of Mercia. It is up to Eivor to expand the settlement, welcome old friends, establish Hythem’s bureau to track down The Order, and generally improving its facilities.
Eivor is also asked by Sigurd to forge alliances and strengthen their friendships with other Danes and Saxons in surrounding areas.
To the north in Mercia, Eivor and Sigurd help the Ragarnassons (Ivvar and Hafdan) install a puppet king called Ceowulf who is prepared to rule Saxons and Danes equally. It is a successful mission, and the King’s son Ceolbert joins Ravensthorpe to learn diplomacy skills and the culture of the Norse while Mercia settles under its new leadership.
To the south, Eivor helps the Summer Army of Danes under Soma retake Grantebridge, which involves booting out the Saxons led by Wigmund and then discovering the identity of the spies who allowed them back into the city in the first place (via a secret tunnel only three of her close advisors knew about).
It turns out to be her advisor Galinn, who Eivor correctly accuses (in theory) after conducting an investigation. Wrongly accusing Lif or Brina results in negative story consequences, such as Birna not joining your crew.
To the east, Eivor travels to East Anglia to confront a clan of rogue Danes who attack his settlement. When he arrives, he finds the region in poor shape and without a king.
It turns out that the rather pathetic “King” Oswald hasn’t been anointed yet because he is struggling for respect amongst his Dane sponsors and hasn’t secured his marriage to one of their number.
The region is plagued by a Dane clan led by Rued. Eivor backs Oswald and helps him secure to respect of the Danes by throwing Rued out, which he does successfully, forging yet another alliance in the process.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Story Summary
Lunden
Further afield, Eivor travels to Lunden (London) and makes friends with the town’s local authorities – the Reeves, Stowe and Erke – whose attempts to keep the peace are thwarted by members of The Order.
After a thorough investigation of the area, Eivor discovers the identity of the assassins who murdered the chief of police and eliminates four key personnel from The Order, which involves a fairly substantial battle. A friendship is forged with The Reeves of Lunden.
Back at Ravensthorpe, Hythem is pleased with Eivor’s efforts. Later, Eivor makes a rousing speech in front of the settlement’s inhabitants celebrating the many victories they have had in forging alliances and establishing a town.
Asgard & Jotunheim Quest Arc
Later, Eivor is greeted by Valka, a Seer from Norway who has come to settle in England. After building her a hut she encourages Eivor to drink a hallucinogenic potion that essentially transports him to Asgard.
Here the second storyline in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes place, with Eivor role-playing Odin (but called Havi) as the ethereal land attempts to fend off attacks from the giants of Jotenheim, as well as internal conflicts between godly figures from Norse mythology like Thor, Loki, and Freyja.
Eivor also experiences visions reliving Odin’s attempts to avert Ragnarok, with Odin and the Aesir drinking a magical mead that will ensure their souls will be reincarnated as humans after Ragnarok.
This quest arc continues throughout the rest of the game in three separate arcs depending on when the player wishes to engage with them. In brief, Havi travels to Jotunheim and retrieves the mead, ensuring that he lives on as a human after Ragnorok.
It is implied that this is how he and Eivor are linked, and later in the story, we discover that he is, in fact, the reincarnation of Odin.
The events in England mirror those in Asgard and Jotunheim, with the former foreboding how Sigurd and Eivor’s relationship will play out.
Dag Becomes Angry, Randvi Gets Fresh Air
After Eivor wakes and returns to the longroom, Randvi asks him to hear two townsfolk who are quarreling. After sitting in the throne and passing judgment, Dag, one of the senior members of Eivor’s raiding party, is disgruntled about what he perceives as Eivor trying to steal away control of Ravensthorpe from Sigung.
After the speech, Eivor speaks with Randvi who seems distant and overtired. He then takes on a day trip to Gatensbridge for fresh air, and it’s here the player can choose to romance Randvi; either way, Eivor is faced with the next chapter of his quest across England. There are several options, but logically it makes sense to visit Oxenfordscire to catch up with Sigurd.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Story Summary
Oxenfordscire
In Oxenfordscire, Sigurd and Basim are attempting to forge alliances, but the people they are seeking out don’t have the sort of prestige or credentials to impress Eivor, who takes a dim view of their dealings.
He questions why Basim is even accompanying Sigurd and is also puzzled as to why Sigurd is so reliant on Basim’s advice. Sigurd is seemingly losing his way in getting caught up with Basim’s prophecies of the future and interest in a strange figure called Fulke.
It is clear during this chapter that Eivor is startled by Sigurd’s changing behavior.
As it turns out, Bassim has convinced Sigurd that an artifact of great power will see him fulfill his destiny as the ruler of England. It is being held by Fulke, who locals in the area lament as being a heretic and a madwoman.
The fact that Fulke has the artifact suddenly explains Sigurd and Bassim’s interest in seeking her out.
After the trio discover the artifact has been stolen from where Fulke had hidden it, things come to a boil. Eivor isn’t too pleased that Sigurd is so distracted and makes his feelings known.
The two argue and a rift begins to form, especially when Sigurd appears to be ready to betray his pledge to Geadric, the Saxon contact who they’re essentially sponsoring to pacify Oxenfordscire and remove Eadwyn, a rival leader in cahoots with Alfred the Great of Wessex.
Regardless, the trio work to weaken Eadyn’s grip on the area before assaulting her castle and capturing her. The trio then meet with Alfred the Great to barter on the fate of Mercia, which involves a trade of personnel – the two exchange their best warriors, which ends up seeing Sigurd join Alred under Fulke’s watch.
Fulke recommends Alfred choose Sigurd, calling him a dangerous man who believes himself to be born of a god, betraying him somewhat in the process.
It is now we learn that Fulke is part of the Order of Ancients. So she tricked them all, and Sigurd is now effectively a prisoner of Alfred.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Story Summary
Sciropescire
Eivor now returns to Ravesnthrope and visits Randvi to plot out the next move. It turns out that the young Ceolbert, son of Mercia’s new King, Ceowulf, has gone to test his newfound diplomacy skills in Sciropescire. He and the Viking Ivarr are attempting to negotiate with the Britons led by King Rhodri to the west.
Rhodri is disgruntled because his brother is being held by the Danes and he wants him freed. Despite Eivor’s best efforts, a conflict ensues after the Viking Ivarr slits Rhodri’s brother’s throat. Eivor then sets about beating Rhodri’s forces back toward Wales (Briton) and securing peace for the region so that Ceolbert can become Ealdorman (a chief) of the Scire.
Unfortunately, though a bargain is struck with Rhodri, Ceolbert is injured after he was snuck up on by one of Rhodri’s assassins. Eivor and Ivarr now seek revenge and assault Rhodri’s castle, which they do successfully and kill Rhodri. But Ivarr has not been honest. He reveals that it was he who killed Ceolbert in an effort to be remembered as both a King Killer and the killed of the famous Eivor, which he believes will see his name sung for years to come as the most famous Viking of all time.
With Ivarr defeated, Eivor returns to Ubba and Bishop Dealaf, who is to be crowned ealdorman in Ceolbert’s place.
Back at Ravensthorpe, Eivor decides on the next region to visit. The player has several options, but it makes sense to find Basim in Cent and plot a rescue of Sigurd. On his way out of the settlement, though, he is confronted by Dag, who remains disgruntled that Eivor and Sigurd are neglecting Ravensthorpe. He refuses to travel with Eivor to help Sigurd and remains at home.
Cent
In Cent, Basim has made friends with a local priest called Cynebert, who is as pious as he is ambitious.
In exchange for the name of the person whom Alfred plans to name Ealdorman of the Scire, the priest is willing to help them find Fulke. Eivor discovers the identity of the person as a man named Tedmund, and so begins an attempt to capture him.
This ends an assault on Rouecistre supported by Eivor’s new allies, including Geardric. The attack is successful, and Tedmund is captured, only to be “rescued” by Cynebert. This is actually a rouse as Cynebert is trying to gain his favor.
Tedmund, though, dies from poison (he killed himself), thwarting Cynebert’s plan to control Alfred’s ealdorman.
Later in the quest, Fulke kills Cynebert. Eivor confronts Fulke about Sigurd’s whereabouts, but she doesn’t explain and simply makes vague remarks about Sigurd being special. She then orders her men to kill Eivor and Basim, but not before revealing she’s based in Canterbury.
Eivor and Basim escape and hatch a plan to find her in Canterbury. After infiltrating the cathedral hoping to find either Fulke or Sigurd, all they find is evidence that Sigurd has been tortured. A severed arm is found in a torture chair.
Eivor returns to Randvi to explain the situation. After he goes to bed, Dag calls out Eivor and loses a fight to the death.
Lincolnshire, Essexe, Jorvik
From the Alliance Map, players will now have a greater degree of control where they go next in the game. There are several regions available, including Essex, Lincolnshire, Jorvik, or to immediately head west to Suthsexe and storm the castle of Portescitre, where Basim believes Fulke is held up.
However, this requires a great army, which Eivor drafts with help from his many newfound allies. But the more he’s made along the way, the greater his chances of success.
Eivor can, for example, first visit Lincolnshire at the behest of an eccentric young lord called Hunwald who is trying to re-establish his position in his homeland after losing favor with his father.
He asks for Evior’s protection in exchange for the promise of an alliance, but inevitably things become more complicated, as his father has disappeared – stolen away after falling ill so his death was kept a secret from everyone.
After counseling Hunwald, it turns out the same people who wanted his father’s death kept quiet are trying to kill Hunwald himself and take over as ealdorman. The bishop was the one behind it all, another member of the nefarious Order of the Ancients trying to assert control over England.
Birstan of Essexe also calls on Eivor’s help. He wants him to support his efforts as ealdorman. It quickly becomes obvious he’s not competent, spending money on sport and festivities while neglecting the kingdom’s more important matters.
It turns out both Birstand and his wife Estrid don’t want the responsibility of being leaders, and so Eivor involves himself in a faux kidnapping in order for all of them to live out their lives while keeping stability in the region.
Jorvik is another Order-killing questline similar to Lunden. Eivor finds a network of The Order called the Redhand who are pulling the strings in the city. With the help of his old pals Ljufvina and Hjorr.
After taking out two of its cronies, Eivor discovers the Order is going to attempt to poison Yuletide feast, which he successfully stops from occurring, taking out another key member of The Order in the process.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Story Summary
Rescuing Sigurd
Eivor now proceeds to Suthsexe to siege Portcester and its castle in an attempt to free Sigurd. He meets with Basim and a Dane leader called Guthram, the latter of whom is skeptical they have enough forces to siege the castle.
Still, Eivor proceeds not wanting to let the opportunity pass him by. After taking out Fulke’s scouts it’s time to siege the castle, but not before the Saxons come looking for Evior’s camp having been forewarned of their planned attack.
After pushing back Fulke’s forces, Broder’s brother is killed by Fulke’s champion, who Eivor then kills as Fulke’s forces retreat to the castle.
Despite technically winning the day, Guthrum is angry about Eivor’s recklessness. Eivor agrees it is best to wait for the support of allies before proceeding, so the plan is now to weaken Fulke’s hold on the area to soften her up before the inevitable assault.
As the assault reaches its crescendo, Eivor reaches Sigurd and discovers Fulke has tortued him to near death. Fulke makes a run for it, but Eivor goes after her and battles her in an underground passage.
Fulke then explains Sigurd is “An Ancient One” before attempting to escape again. But she is surrounded and Eivor kills her as she laughs about having opened Sigurd’s mind to something more powerful.
During the death cutscene, Fulke calls Sigurd a god trapped in a prison of bones, who she wanted to free at any cost.
Sigurd Returns to Ravensthrope
Sigurd is alive and returns to Ravensthorpe, but he’s a changed man. He’s now completely obsessed with achieving his greater ambitions of fulfilling some bizarre destiny that Fulke has put in his head.
He explodes in a fit of rage at Eivor who is trying to celebrate his return, then leaves for fresh air where Eivor catches up with him and tries to understand his ravings.
He isn’t able to, nor is Sigurd clear with what he is talking about. He only wishes to be alone, and so Eivor leaves him be and picks up his quest to forge alliances with other nearby kingdoms.
Back at Ravensthorpe, Eivor is tasked with breaking up another disagreement, but before he can finish Sigurd arrives and goes berserk that Eivor has taken his place.
He sits in his chair and passes judgment, issuing an absurdly harsh punishment, which Eivor disagrees with. Sigurd has lost it.
Northumberland
Eivor now returns to Randvi before going back up north to Northumberland (having been there previously during the Jorvik quest atc) at the behest of Halfdan.
Halfdan is battling the picts with his army, but he’s losing the plot a little, seemingly in his old age, experiencing paranoid fits. He believes Faravid, his drengr, is plotting against him, or at the very least someone in his ranks has betrayed him.
He wants Eivor to pry and discover the truth, but there isn’t any evidence. Halfdan insists Eivor must be wrong, and so the quest continues to see how loyal Faravid is.
Faravid shows loyalty, but he does make decisions without Halfdan’s permission (mostly because Halfdan is so enraged and confused all the time). Faravid lacks money for an assault on the Picts, and so he seeks the money from King Ricsige the puppet king. But the King isn’t keen to go behind Halfdan’s back, and so Eivor devises a plan to entice him with the help of Ljufvina and Hjorr. Horr forges the documents for Eivor that he needs.
The quest arc ends with Halfdan joining Faravid and Eivor’s siege on the Picts, lamenting their actions and promising repercussions later. As it turns out, though, the puppet King Ricsige appears to be the one who has been making attempts on Halfdan’s life and generally trying to thwart his leadership.
Later, during a feast to celebrate victory, Halfdan decides he will reign as King rather than installing a new puppet. Unfortunately, he starts to choke and causes somebody of poisoning him. It is, in fact, a build of lead position from all the Roman chalices he has been drinking out of over the years, which were presents from Faravid. He now goes back to suspecting Faravid in a fit of rage, and Eivor is forced to battle Faravid who goes for his sword in self-defense.
Halfdan becomes depressed that he was forced to punish his friend, questioning whether he was even guilty. Eivor can later return to Northumberland to console him.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Story Summary
Glowesterscire
Back in Ravensthorpe, Eivor’s next port of call is to visit Glowesterscie in the west of the country, where Gunnar the blacksmith has traveled to marry a Celtic lady. There Eivor experiences a Halloween festival and befriends both the current and ealdorman to be, Tewdwr. But things go awry as the Ealdorman in waiting is murdered after he and Eivor have a rauckas night on the boos.
Having both passed out, Eivor wakes to find himself unusually groggy. Worse still, he’s been accused of the murder and has to leave town sharpish.
Thankfully, Tewdyr isn’t actually dead, and Eivor maanges to rescue him.
As he tries to track down the guilty party, he remembers that somebody had offered them a special tonic for their drinks and so goes about trying to understand what it was and who prepared him.
With the help of the pagan witch Modron, Eivor realizes that it was Gwilim who slipped them the tonic, one of the people he and Tewdwr were drinking with the previous night.
Later in the quest arc, we discover that Cynon has been deceitful. He has been lying about his embrace of Tewdyr and Christianity. He is a firm pagan and is in cahoots with the witch Modron to have Tewdyr killed and their daughter Gwynedd take over as alderwoman.
Eivor can choose to kill both Modron and Cynon or leave them to their fate. Tewdyr agrees to raise Gwynedd, though she isn’t too pleased at the idea of having to become a Christian.
Vinland
After taking out a number of The Order’s minions, Eivor speaks to Hytham to try and ascertain the whereabouts of a member known as X. It turns out to be Gorm Kjotvesson, the son of Kjotve from back in Norway. But he isn’t in Norway or England but Vinland, a continent far to the west across the Atlantic Ocean (North America). Eivor decides to chase him there and does so, landing weeks later on tracking down Gorm successfully.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Story Summary
Wincestere
Eivor now pledges to Wincestere after Hytham tells him of a strange message to find a priest and utter a codeword. After he arrives in Wincestere and speaks the code, he’s taken to meet King Alfred, who has organized a secret meeting.
Alfred explains that he didn’t trust or like Fulke and knows all about The Order. In fact, he believes The Order is going to try to assassinate him and wants Eivor’s help.
First, his Reeve Goodwin has been captured, so Eivor must rescue him. In the process, he discovers clues pertaining to two key members of The Order who are pulling the strings in Wessex: The Quill, and The Gallows. Eivor goes about putting their activities to rest permanently.
Despite this, an assassination is attempted on Alfred by another member of The Order called The Seax, which Eivor stops just in time.
Alred is grateful, but when Eivor goes to redeem his reward (after searching the bishop’s tomb and finding evidence alluding to “The Father”), Alfred offers him only a silver cross and insists he either joins Christianity or dies as a pagan. Eivor is then chased out of Wincester after refusing to play ball.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Story Summary
Snotinghamscre
Back in Ravensthorpe, Eivor passes on the news about Alfred before pledging to a new territory. This is Snotinghamscre, where Eivor has been summed by his old pal Vili. However, when he arrives he discovers that it is his father Hemming who actually wishes to speak with him.
It turns out Hemming is dying and he is troubled because he does not know who to name as his successor. The decision is between his son, Vili, or his trusted advisor and second in command, Trygvr.
The former is a warrior at heart, while the latter is wise and loyal but old and without a passion for leadership. Eivor essentially helps bring Vili to his senses after a number of short adventures that help open his eyes to his responsibility.
Now back at Ravensthorpe, Sigurd finally speaks with Eivor and explains that the “time has come” for him to fulfill his “final glory” and to return to his father in Norway. It sounds rather ominous as if he wants to die. But Sigurd explains it is eternal life, not death, that he is after.
The pair then travel to Norway, but it is clear when they arrive in Norwegian waters that Sigurd is intent on confronting his father and reminding him what a coward he was for accepting Harald’s leadership.
During the conversation, Eivor can reveal his feelings through a number of dialog exchanges. There is a continued feeling that Sigurd is leading him down a dark path, but what he wishes to reveal to him remains a mystery.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Ending Explained
The pair sail for shores further afield, to Hordafylke, but not before Eivor admits that like Sigurd, he too has been having visions. He tells Sigurd that Valka has warned him of a great betrayal, but that he does not know which form it is too take.
Eivor reminds Sigurd that betrayal is not in his nature (though if players have chosen to romance Randvi, the lie is obvious).
Sigurd leads the pair to a cold northern fjord where the wind is howling a gale. The two walk up a hill toward their objective, which Sigurd has still not revealed to Eivor.
Sigurd leads them to a cave, where they find a large stone door with a strange inscription. Eivor is stunned. Neither of them have ever been here before and yet Sigurd knows a strange chant to open the passage.
He claims the passage will lead them to Valhalla… The door leads to an elevator, which takes them down into a giant opening that looks alien in design.
In its center stands a mechanical-looking tree of life. Sigurd runs to the next doorway at its foot and wants Eivor to follow. The two move into the central platform and a machine picks them up and plugs them into what seems to be some sort of ancient animus.
Suddenly, Eivor awakens in a strange bedroom with the noise of music outside. When he leaves the room, they appear to be in Valhalla, with Freyja and other members of Norse mythology welcoming to Asgard.
There are men celebrating Eivor’s arrival, and they call him Havi as they did during Valka’s visions. Eivor and Sigurd celebrate the day by joining a battle, where they both have super strength. After fighting each other, Eivor passes out and wakes up again in the same bedroom as before.
The day effectively repeats itself, with Sigurd again losing his arm in battle. This time, though, Eivor sees his father, Varin, right before passing out again.
He awakes in the same room, and the same day plays out again and again. Eivor attempts to find his father, though nobody knows who he is. Despite that, Eivor sees him again before being shot in the eye by a rogue arrow. A horn then sounds and he awakes again in his bed.
But this time, Sigurd enters the room with a “surprise” for Eivor. He has brought his father, Valin. However, Eivor is not pleased to see him since a) he believes it not to be real, b) he does not think his father should be allowed in Valhalla after having died a coward (sacrificing himself for his clan). Eivor then throws a knife in his eye and explains his discontent to Sigurd.
After leaving the room, things are different. There is no celebration, only Svala (Valka’s mother) who explains that this place isn’t real but it takes away the pain of real life. Eivor says that he understands why she came (she was crippled and weak), but it is not for him. He rushes out to battle to find Sigurd and try to convince him to leave.
Sigurd does not want to die, despite the emptiness of this strange world he prefers it here. Eivor makes his case for life and the embrace of real emotions. Sigurd agrees to leave, but suddenly Odin appears and says they cannot go.
Odin then takes Eivor on a walk through the darkness of a vision, reminding him of his life’s achievements. Eivor then fights Odin to try and leave the device.
He manages too, but as he awakes he discovers Basim is trying to kill Sigurd, who explains that all three of them are reincarnations of Odin, Tyr, and Loki. Eivor and Basim fight, with Basim explaining that he wants to find his children. But Eivor wins. Sigurd then has the machine grab Basim and plunge his mind into darkness permanently.
After catching his breath, Sigurd explains that he cannot return to England. He will then bring up Eivor’s many betrayals, including the stealing of his father’s supplies back in Norway, various challenges to his rule in Ravensthorpe, and the romance of Randvi.

Layla Hassan Visits the Temple
After explaining that he will not return to England, the game then returns to the perspective of Layla Hassan. It is then explained that Eivor is a little like Desmond in the sense that all history converged on him.
We then learn from Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane that the temple Eivor and Sigurd found in Norway still exists and is enhancing the world’s magnetic force and is beginning to disrupt satellite communications. Shaun explains they can’t stop it but only slow it down.
Layla declares that “everything I have done, everything I have learned has led me to this moment,” and so she goes to the temple with The Staff of Hermes to protect her from any lingering radiation.
When she arrives at the machine, she is sucked inside it and arrives at Eivor’s Valhalla. But something isn’t right. The whole place is distorted, and then Layla discovers that Basim still exists within its construct.
It turns out that it was Basim who sent the message to Layla, Shaun, and Rebecca, leading them to Eivor’s corpse in North America and, in turn, to this moment in the chamber.
The reason the machine is overloading is that there are three seers who are pushing the machine to its limits. It’s symbolic, really. Basim and Layla “put them to rest,” thereby slowing the machine.
We’re then introduced to The Reader (implied to be Desmond Miles) who explains the cyclical nature of the machine, which is capable of exploring different timelines throughout history in an attempt to save humanity from its inevitable extinction.
Layla wants to stay, but she realizes her staff has been stolen by Basim, who has escaped the machine. The radiation will kill Layla, but she still opts to stay so the pair can find a solution.
Alethia and Basim are shown together, ready to go to new worlds. Basim then tracks down Shaun and Rebecca, demanding an appointment with William Miles.
Players now take control of Basim who declares that he will use the Animus to become Eivor and learn all his secrets, as well as clues pertaining to the whereabouts of his children.
As Eivor, players then return to Ravensthorpe and meet with Randvi, who tells him to take his seat as the leader of the settlement. Eivor addresses his people, asking only that they keep him honest as they all face an uncertain future.
