Orlog Explained in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Orlog is a mini-game you can play in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. It’s a game of skill and luck, and your victory will depend on how well you can read your opponent and what dice you choose to play. In most major towns and settlements, you’ll usually find an Orlog opponent waiting to play with you. The NPC will be indicated with the dice icon on your compass.

Head up to them, and press the triangle or Y button to start the game.

How to Play Orlog

At the start of a match, you’ll flip a coin to determine who goes first. Each turn will have you roll a set of six dice three times. Each time you roll, you can decide how many dice you want to keep, but by the time you reach the third roll, all dice have to be played regardless of what face they land on.

Here’s a quick rundown of what each face means:

  • Axe: Deals 1 axe damage.
  • Arrow: Deals 1 arrow damage.
  • Hand: Steals 1 token from the opponent.
  • Helmet: Blocks 1 axe damage.
  • Shield: Blocks 1 arrow damage.

In addition to that, if the die face has a border around it, you’ll gain one token as well.

Each player starts off with 15 health points, as indicated by the blue stones at the side of the table. Your goal is to deal a total of 15 points of damage to your opponent in order to win.

Once both players have finished their three rolls, the resolution phase will begin. This is simply the phase where your dice rolls and actions are calculated, and the game will automatically deduct HP if applicable. So for instance, if you played two axes and your opponent has no helmets, you’ll deal two points of damage to them. This is also where you’ll gain tokens from either hand rolls or token rolls.

After the resolution phase, you’ll move on to the god favor phase. This phase only comes into play when you have enough tokens, and it’s basically like a more powerful move you can use in Orlog to either deal a ton of damage or restore health.

At the start of the game, you’ll have access to the Thor’s Strike favor. Here’s a quick rundown of what it does:

  • 4 Tokens: Deal 2 damage.
  • 8 Tokens: Deal 5 damage.
  • 12 Tokens: Deal 8 damage.

As you can see, tokens are extremely important in Orlog as well, and saving them up could give you a serious edge in a match. That said, you also need to be careful about opponents potentially stealing your tokens during the resolution phase, so it might not always be a good idea to hoard all of them.

That’s all you need to know about how Orlog works in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Be sure to check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
