Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: How to Use Hidden Blade

hidden blade, assassin's creed

While Assassin’s Creed games have transitioned from stealth-action to action-RPG experiences in recent years, the game’s iconic takedown mechanic is still very much a part of its gameplay. That said, you won’t have access to it straight away in the latest game. Here’s how to use the hidden blade in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

As a Viking warrior, Eivor isn’t really interested in sneaking up behind enemies and killing them silently, and it’s for that reason you won’t have access to the hidden blade during the first hour or so of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

It’s not until Eivor is gifted the blade by two members of the Brotherhood traveling with Sigurd that you’ll be able to stealth attack enemies. Once you have it, performing a stealth kill is as easy as sneaking up behind them and pressing R1 (PS4) or the equivalent button on your platform (likely RB on Xbox One, and F on PC).

Remember, though, this only works on enemies with standard armor. Heavy enemies like Behemoths and various camp leaders can only be “stealth attacked” rather than killed, which is also performed with the same button prompt.

Later in the game, once you’ve unlocked the Advanced Assassination Skill, you’ll be able to Assassinate heavily armored targets via a timing-based attack, which is all-new for the series. Pulling this off successfully comes down to quickly pressing R1 when the closing circle reaches the red inner circle.
