Assassin’s Creed Origins: How to Beat Septimius the Jackal

How to Beat Septimius in Assassin’s Creed Origins

Recommended Videos

You’ll actually end up fighting Septimius two times in Assassin’s Creed Origins, but both fights play out exactly the same, though he’s a bit stronger in the second one and seems to have a relic of his own. What you have here is a giant man with a chain and brutal close-range attacks, but he’s not too difficult to take on provided you’re willing to jump headfirst into the fray.

What you want to bring is preferably a weapon with a status effect like bleeding, burning, or poison. I prefer bleeding since that’s useful against just about any enemy in the entire game, including wildlife. But whatever you prefer is fine. You’ll also want something fast like dual swords, or a hook sword (the overpower ability for hook swords lets you pull off some great combos). Do note that during your second encounter, when you fight him in Rome, dual swords are pretty much your only option. Now time for the fight.

During your encounters with Septimius in Assassin’s Creed Origins, you’ll notice he likes to keep you back by swinging his chain around in a wide circle. Your instincts will probably tell you to back away, but what you want to do is dodge towards him to get close. You can start wailing on Septimius as he retracts his chain and switches to close range combat, which makes him quite a bit slower. Close to him is exactly where you want to be, keeping to his side and hitting him with everything you’ve got as you avoid his attacks (by constantly dodging to the side). You never want to be directly in front of Septimius no matter what.

As the fight progresses, Septimius will get a bit more speed, but the fight is still essentially the same. Keep close and to the side to do damage. He’ll sometimes do a slam that will stun you in place. If this happens just keep tapping the dodge button. You actually break free right before Septimius comes in for the attack, so if you’re tapping the dodge button you should be able to roll away at the very last second (this also works when he stuns you and leaves you floating).

Just don’t be afraid of his spinning chain and this is a much easier Assassin’s Creed Origins boss than it initially seems.
