Before the System Override event kicked off in Apex Legends, the only way you could get a character’s Heirloom set that had already been and gone from a limited-time event was to open 500 Apex Packs. Within those 500 packs, you were guaranteed to get an Heirloom at some point, but it would be random. If you got an Heirloom for a character you didn’t like, tough.

With the System Override event, EA and Respawn have taken the time to overhaul this method. Now, within the 500 Apex Packs, you’ll instead be given an Heirloom Shard.

Getting Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends

As we eluded to above, the only way of getting Heirloom Shards is to simply buy Apex Crates and hope for the best.

You’ll be guaranteed to get an Heirloom Shard drop every 500 crates you open, and any progress you’d made towards that number prior to the System Override event taking place will carry over.

Using Heirloom Shards

Once you’ve got some Heirloom Shards, you can then simply exchange these for whichever Heirloom you want. Keep in mind that unlocking an Heirloom item will also unlock that character’s Heirloom banner, too.

That’s everything you need to know on how to get Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends. For more tips, tricks, and guides, be sure to stick with Twinfinite.
