Best Goods to Trade for Maximum Profit in Anno 1800

Recommended Videos

In Anno 1800, you play as the director of a fledgling trading company. Your goal, of course, is to turn a profit, all the while keeping the different types of citizens in your settlement appeased and productive, as it is their labor that will further your ambitions. Here are the best goods to trade for maximum profit in Anno 1800.

There are several major avenues through which wealth can be obtained. You can simply tax your people, the profit from which is usually just a bit more than your operating costs if done correctly.

But to really get ahead, you are going to have to engage in some real commerce. You will need to identify what goods are required by other trading companies, produce them efficiently as possible, and ensure you have a surplus available for sale.

This is easier said than done, but something that will become second nature to you in no time at all.

Which Goods Should you be Producing?

Strictly speaking, all goods can be sold, but some are definitely worth more than others. Further, goods can only be bought or sold when a visiting ship is docked at your Trading Post.

If you click on your Trading Post, you will see the accumulated inventory of your company. You can adjust several things here by clicking on the resource you would like to trade.

By setting the sliders at different intervals, you can sell off your surplus, or purchase up to the amount required.

For example, you always want to keep some wooden planks on hand for construction, around 50 is a good number. Set your par level to 50, and if you have more than that, the surplus goods can be sold to passing traders.

As a general rule, finished products are what you want to be selling, not the raw materials they are made up of. So, soap is generally in pretty high demand, I like to keep around 30 on hand for my own citizens, and sell off any excess, which turns a tidy profit.

A great early game commodity is work clothes, which are required by all players to improve the most basic level of citizens, the farmers. All other factions will want to purchase work clothes, but generally, they won’t purchase the raw wool they are made from.

Things like weapons sell really well too, and once you have some cannons set up and a few ships, you won’t really need any more for yourself. Anything marked as luxury goods are always a good option too, just be sure to keep enough for your own people, or you will be unable to upgrade them to the next class.

That’s all you need to know about the best goods to trade for maximum profit in Anno 1800, be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game. A great tactic to get some money early on is to invest in your opposition by purchasing shares in their company, and you can learn how to do that here.
