Animal Crossing New Horizons: Turnip Buying & Selling Guide

turnip

The Stalk Market, which is Nintendo’s creative take on the Stock Market, returns to the Animal Crossing series in New Horizons. As in previous games, it takes the form of buying and selling white turnips over the course of a week to make a profit. If you’re familiar with the process from previous games, you’ll be glad to know that it is largely similar in New Horizons but with a few minor differences. If you’ve never played before, though, we’ve got you covered with how to buy and sell turnips in Animal Crossing New Horizons to make the most bells possible.

How to Buy Turnips in Animal Crossing New Horizons

The first thing you need to know is how to buy turnips. Once Nook’s Cranny has been built on your island, a special character will begin appearing.

Her name is Daisy Mae, and she is a young, orange pig who visits once a week on Sunday mornings (between 5 A.M. and 12 P.M.). You will spot her walking around your island with a basket of turnips strapped to her head.

Talk to her, and she will introduce herself. She is the granddaughter of Joan, the boar who visited your Animal Crossing town to sell turnips in previous games. Daisy Mae is a bit nervous yet enthusiastic about her part in the family business.

Daisy Mae will then give you the run-down of turnips: she will sell turnips to you in bunches of ten, and each week the price will be different. At lowest, you can buy them for around 90 bells each, and at most, they might cost as high as 110 bells.

For the best profit, you’ll want to buy them when they are at a low price, generally below 100 bells. Every island will have a different turnip price, so if you are able to, consider visiting a friends’ island if Daisy Mae is selling them for fewer bells there.

Once you have bought some turnips, it turns into a waiting game to decide when you want to sell them for the best profit.

How to Sell Turnips in Animal Crossing New Horizons

Daisy Mae won’t be back at your island until next Sunday morning, so you’ll be selling your turnips to Timmy and Tommy in Nook’s Cranny.

That being said, there are a few things to keep in mind. For one, they won’t buy them from you on Sundays, so keep them somewhere safe for at least a day.

The second thing you need to know is that the selling price of turnips changes daily. It is possible that if you bought turnips for 100 bells on Sunday, they could be selling for 50 bells at Nook’s Cranny on Monday. However, since the price fluctuates, they might sell for 500 bells on Tuesday.

The prices are completely random, but they seem to range between about 25 bells and 800 bells. You will want to wait for a day during the week when the selling price is higher than what you bought them for. Remember: buy low, sell high!

Here’s the risky part: you only have one week to sell the turnips because they will rot on Saturday night. That means if you waited too long for a high price, you will end up with nothing. Sometimes it’s better to sell them at a loss to avoid that happening.

The selling prices can be random, but it’s a good idea to look for patterns. If you notice the prices slowly increasing throughout the week, there is a good chance the price could crash the next day.

Buying and selling turnips can be extremely profitable if done in bulk, but you’ll need to be both lucky and smart about it. There is definitely some risk involved, but if you trust your instincts about when to sell them, it’s a great way to earn bells with minimal work.
