When players visit your island, by default they will not be able to use tools like their Axe and Shovels. Anything that can cause destruction and damage to your island is forbidden.

By making players ‘Best Friends’ in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you can lift these restrictions.

To do so, simply open up your Nook Phone with R, and then select the Best Friends List. It’s an icon with two faces next to one another and is usually next to the little phone book option. This will appear once you’ve had one visitor to your island.

You’ll then see a list of all friends who have recently played with you. Simply select the player you want to make your Best Friend, and send them an invite.

All you then need to do is have them accept your Best Friend invite, and then you’ll be able to go about using your Axe and Shovel in one another’s towns.

Keep in mind that you’ll have to make players Best Friends regardless of whether you’re playing in local or online multiplayer. Though, keep in mind that we really wouldn’t advise making people you don’t completely trust your Best Friends. We wouldn’t want to see your island destroyed!
