Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Get Bells Fast

Animal Crossing New Horizons bells

Bells make the world go round, and by bells, we don’t mean those things that ring and make a racket. Obviously, we’re talking about Animal Crossing’s form of currency. You’ll need Bells if you want to pay off those loans from Tom Nook, buy some furniture for your house, or a gift for a fellow villager. Here’s how to get Bells fast in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

As is always the case in Animal Crossing games, there are multiple ways you can earn Bells fast in New Horizons. We’ve broken these down below.

Getting Bells Fast in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Foreign Fruit Farming

If you’ve got a friend who’s picked up Animal Crossing: New Horizons as well, the first thing you’ll want to do is go and visit their island, or have them visit yours. Whoever does the visiting, take a few of your fruit, and swap it with the fruit growing in your friend’s town.

Unless you’re incredibly unlucky and both have the same fruit growing on your islands, you’ll now be able to return to your island, plant it, and sell each piece of fruit for 500 Bells, as opposed to 100.

Rather than selling the foreign fruit, plant it once you have a watering can. Grow each bit of fruit into a tree which now yields three of that fruit. You can then plant the fruit from each tree to make an orchard, which, when you have 10 trees all bearing three bits of foreign fruit will make for a tidy 15,000 Bells each harvest.

Considering fruit will continue to regrow on your tree as long as you don’t chop it down, you’ll be making a small fortune in no time, for minimal work, too.

Fishing and Bug Catching

Once you’ve unlocked the Museum in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, chances are you’ll want to donate any new fish or bugs that you haven’t caught before to Blathers.

For anything that the museum has already got, however, you’ll want to take it to Tom Nook. Selling all the fish and bugs that you’ve caught that have no place in the museum tends to be your main method of earning Bells.

Doing each activity for 20-30 minutes can fill out your inventory. While the price does vary depending on the species, an hour or so of fishing can rake in anywhere from 10,000 – 50,000 Bells.

Bug catching tends to be less fruitful, unless you catch rare species like tarantulas and scorpions, but every little helps, after all.

Selling Spare Furniture

Over time, you’ll find your fellow villagers will gift you bits of furniture, clothing, and other items that you may not want at all. Seriously, how these animals say they know you but then give you such gaudy gifts is beyond me. But I digress.

Any unwanted gifts you get, or old furniture that you no longer have use for should be sold. Anything you find can be sold to Tommy and Timmy. It’s rarely a massive amount of money, but again every little helps and it’s better than it sitting in your house’s storage for eternity doing nothing.

It’s also worth noting that clumps of weeds that sprout up around your island can be sold for a few Bells, too.

Fossils

Finally, make sure you’re digging up any of those star-shaped patterns on the ground. While this could be a Gyroid or a Pitfall, there’s also a chance it could be a fossil.

Fossils have to be identified by Blathers in the museum before you can either donate them, or sell them to Timmy and Tommy.

Each fossil sells for between 1,000 and 5,000 Bells depending on how rare the one you have is. Do a quick sweep of your island and if you’re lucky you could have 20,000-30,000 Bells just from doing a spot of digging. Easy.

Buying and Selling Turnips – The Stalk Market

Another one of the big ways you can get Bells fast in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is to speak to Daisy Mae whenever she stops by in your town.

She’ll sell turnips for a different price each week. You’ll then have 6 days to then sell these turnips to Timmy and Tommy, but their buying price fluctuates by the day.

The aim is to, obviously, buy low from Daisy Mae and sell high to the Nooklings. Never sell on the first day, you’ll always have one day in the week where the price skyrockets, so as long as you’re checking each day, you’ll be able to make a nice, easy profit.

Selling Shells, The Hot Item, and Floating Presents

There are a few other things you can sell whenever you come across them. Make a point of doing a morning and evening scavenge of your island’s shores. You’ll find a ton of shells that can be sold for a small amount of Bells, but it all helps.

Alternatively, you can sell ‘The Hot Item’ to Timmy and Tommy at Nook’s Cranny once it’s opened on your island. The Hot Item changes each day, but if you sell the item to them on this chosen day you’ll get double the buying price for it.

Finally, whenever you see presents floating through the sky attached to balloons, you can shoot them down with your slingshot. Run directly beneath them and fire up to get it. What’s inside varies, but it can always be sold for a bit of extra cash.
