Catching the Atlas Moth in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The Atlas Moth will only appear on your island during the months of April through until September in the Northern Hemisphere, and October through until March in the Southern Hemisphere. Basically through the late Spring to Summer months, you’ll be able to find the Atlas Moth very occasionally resting on a tree.

You’ll only be able to spot an Atlas Moth between the hours of 7pm and 4am. Outside of these hours, the moth simply won’t show up.

When you spot the Atlas Moth, don’t run right over to it. It’ll fly off quickly if you walk or run over to it. Instead, ready your net far away from it by pressing and holding the A button with it equipped.

Slowly begin creeping towards it by using the left analog stick while holding A. Once you’re in range, let go of A to swing your net and catch the Atlas Moth.

Keep in mind that even if you don’t swing your net, getting too close while creeping will still cause it to fly away. In other words, you need to get close enough to catch it with your net swing, but not too close that the Atlas Moth flies off.
