Young Mortal Kombat X Champion Slaughters His Way to Victory in Fatal 8 Tournament

He's just 17. But don't underestimate his skill.

Despite the fact that Mortal Kombat X will not be officially released to the public until Tuesday, April 14th of this coming week, some individually selected high profile players were honored with the opportunity to compete in the first ever Mortal Kombat X tournament, hosted by ESL or eSports League.

That’s right, while some players are patiently waiting, and others are either bribing or extorting video game store employees to break their solid oath of honor to their professions and sell the game before its release date, others are simply handed this prestigious invitation on account of their previously impressive gaming and tournament accomplishments.

For the rest of us who are not the world’s elite master class of Mortal Kombat players but are indeed enthusiasts in the series, there are an infinite amount of seats to watch the action and the tickets are free. The entire event was recorded on NetherRealm Studios’ Twitch account. Feel free to check that out, but if you just want a sample of the gory glory, here’s a clip of the final match (viewer discretion is advised) :

As we can see, 17 year old Dominique McClean, also known as “Sonic Fox” reigns victorious with the character Erron Black. While it may seem a surprise to some that such a young player is one of the best players in a franchise that began years before he was able to hold a controller, Dominique “Sonic Fox” McClean is no newcomer to the Mortal Kombat scene. This young prodigy is also the reigning champion in the EVO or Evolution Champion Series Mortal Kombat 9 tournament of 2014.  In this tournament, consistent with the exceptional level of skill that he has exhibited in the past, McClean lost only one game.

At only 17 years old, McClean has a tremendous gaming future ahead of him, and may even stand to be the Floyd Mayweather of Mortal Kombat. But only time will tell what this young legend will accomplish. We’ll just have to watch, wait, and see.
