The Xbox One has been playing catch up it seems, with its Sony-built rival the PlayStation 4 home to many functions that Xbox One owners desire. One of the most requested features for the Xbox One is that of a screenshot function. Luckily for those of us who own one of Microsoft’s big black boxes, the screenshot function is coming. Microsoft boss Phil Spencer even decided to take to twitter this weekend and show off the function in action.
Nice to finally be doing this on my Xbox One dev kit. pic.twitter.com/AgDDWr3ExJ

Right now, trying to get a screenshot from gameplay on an Xbox One is nothing less than irritating on the face of it. Unless you’re happy to run your Xbox One through a separate connection to your PC in order to take live screenshots, taking screenshots isn’t especially easy.
Work arounds do exist though. Things like recording the footage before uploading the video file and downloading the footage to take screen captures are just a little too much work, let’s be honest. When others are able to simply push a button or make two menu selections, the Xbox One’s lack of this function over a year on is almost painfully annoying.
When the Xbox One’s screenshot functionality is expected to land is anyone’s guess. With Spencer saying that it’s currently up and running on the dev kits though, one wouldn’t be looking into the realms of madness in assuming that the update will arrive within the next few months.
Until then, Xbox One screenshots are only going to be coming in the form of 720p screen captures taken from uploaded videos from the Upload Centre or shaky camera snaps taken on mobile phones.
