Nintendo has been committed to expanding Super Smash Bros. For Wii U and Nintendo 3DS with lots of downloadable content. Their latest update has no new challengers, but it does include a pair of highly-requested modes and stages from the first Super Smash Bros. game.
Every player can now download Tourney Mode and YouTube Uploads for free. Tourney Mode allows you to create an online tournament to compete against friends. There are also Regular Tourneys that only happen at specific times. This feature could possibly be used by Nintendo to hold official online tournaments in the future.
Smash Bros. players could already save replays locally, but this update allows them to send replays to their YouTube account to save them indefinitely.
There are two stages available to purchase in both versions of the game: Peach’s Castle and Hyrule Castle, both originally appearing in Nintendo 64’s Super Smash Bros. Each stage costs $1.99.
Finally, a slew of costumes for the customizable Mii Fighter are available. Costumes based on Earthbound’s Flying Man, Chrom from Fire Emblem, Lloyd from Tales of Symphonia, Samus from Metroid, and K.K. Slider from Animal Crossing can be purchased for $0.75 each. A King K. Rool outfit is also available, an interesting choice considering his high popularity in the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot.
The entire collection of new content can be purchased for $9.98 on 3DS or Wii U, or $15.18 as a bundle for both consoles.
