Sony have announced that Project Morpheus is set to launch in the first half of 2016. The virtual reality system was originally prototyped in 2014, revealing the potential for the Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita consoles. Sony state that their goal with virtual reality is to deliver a sense of presence, and allow the player to feel like they are entering a virtual world or game. The latest model of Project Morpheus improves the visual experience, tracking accuracy and a host of updates to achieve this aim.

Some of the key changes for Project Morpheus virtual reality system are as follows:

  • OLED Display – New Project Morpheus headset is equipped with a 5.7 inch 1920 X RGB x 1080 resolution OLED display.
  • 120hz refresh rate – Improved from the previous model, this will output amazingly smooth visuals.
  • More accurate tracking – Project Morpheus contains three LEDs to the headset to allow robust 360 degree tracking.
  • User Friendly design – Project Morpheus is much easier to wear with a single band designed with a one quick release button.

Sony have also stated they hope to reveal more additional details at the annual E3 conference later this year with games and further updates.
