Sign up to Test the Next PlayStation 4 Software Update

See all the new features before your friends do.

At this point, you can almost set your watch to Playstation Network’s scheduled maintenance. Every week the service briefly goes down for unspecified improvements and updates. However, a major upgrade to the PlayStation 4 software is coming, and Sony wants help from the community to test it.

In a PlayStation Blog update, Sony is asking PlayStation 4 users to sign up to beta test firmware update 3.00 in September. They’ll be able to see some of the new features in advance and roll back to version 2.57 if the beta becomes unstable. You can sign up for the beta here.

According to Pocket News, beta testers in Japan have already seen some of the updated features. The most prominent features are easier ways to join your friends’ games and the ability to stream your gameplay to YouTube. They’re also adding Stickers to the Messages application, which will finally make the Messages application worth using.
