Generally Microsoft’s Games with Gold program is an excellent way to grab some free games each month for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and October is no different. All three games on offer are quality titles, and definitely shouldn’t be passed up for the low, low cost of zero dollars. The only hitch this month is that, yes, there are only three new games available instead of the usual four; they’ve copped out by offering the same title twice, on each consoles. On top of that, one of the remaining titles was already a Games with Gold freebie in August, but on the other console.
The double-up is Telltale’s The Walking Dead: Season 1. If you’ve only got one of the Xbox consoles, pay close attention. The Walking Dead: Season 1 will be free on the Xbox 360 from Oct. 16 to Oct. 31, and on the Xbox One from Oct. 16 all the way through to Nov. 15.
Next up is the other familiar title. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes was just seen in the Games with Gold program on the Xbox One in August, but now it’s returning just two months later on the Xbox 360. You can download it for free for the first half of the month, from Oct. 1 to Oct. 15.
Finally there’s a stellar puzzle adventure game developed and published by Ubisoft last year, Valiant Hearts: The Great War. This will be free on the Xbox One during the entire month of October.
