Monster Hunter Frontier G is Designed for the West

Some interesting news has come out of Capcom’s investor relations page about Monster Hunter Frontier G. The game is one of the biggest Japanese releases yet with a Wii U, Xbox 360, Windows PC, and PS3 version. A PS Vita release will release at some point this year in Japan. Fans of the franchise might have been a bit surprised by how many platforms they decided to push this game on (especially with it being published first on Xbox 360). Well now the inner workings have been revealed in an interview with Yoshinori Ono.

“The letter “G” in the title implies it’s compatible with a wide range of platforms, including PlayStation3, Wii U, Xbox 360, and PC. We’re also planning to extend this support to PlayStation Vita. The reason why we have increased our support for so many hardware platforms is because we have our sights set on distributing services for this game in the future outside Japan. We simply can’t release a game as it is, but need to adapt all the necessary services to the unique characteristics of each region. In preparation for that, we’ve broadened our scope and started launching individual titles across multiple hardware platforms.”

Monster Hunter Frontier G was planned for the west in mind. Japan essentially stands as the testing grounds for the individual releases so they can begin testing them and tuning them for a future western release. We already have Monster Hunter 4G planned for release in 2015. Perhaps Monster Hunter Frontier G will be coming right alongside it. Currently, Capcom is working on their big “GG” update to the game which among other additions, will enhance the graphics greatly.

While not a confirmation for English release, Mr. Ono was adamant about bringing people in to Capcom that want to look outside of Japan for development. He also highlighted the growing Taiwanese market that games like Onimusha Soul has shown can produce figures that rival the Japanese.
