Minecraft: Story Mode Marks Telltale’s Return to Nintendo

"Nintendo will remember that."

For the last few years Telltale Games’ episodic point-and-click adventures have been releasing on nearly every modern gaming platform available. You can play games like The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, and Tales from the Borderlands on current-gen consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, last-gen consoles PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the always relevant PC, or even on the go with your Android or iOS smart phones or tablets, as well as the PlayStation Vita. There’s certainly no lack of options.

There is one glaring omission, however. Telltale has told no tales on a Nintendo platform since they released Back to the Future: The Game on the Wii in 2010-2011. The storytellers have now revealed to The Verge that their upcoming game, Minecraft: Story Mode, will bring them back into the Nintendo fold.

During his interview with The Verge, Telltale’s director of creative communications, Job Stauffer said, “We’re tailoring this for audiences both existing and new, but Minecraft fans are really at the core of the themes here.”

It is truly ironic that Minecraft: Story Mode is coming to the Wii U this year while Minecraft proper has yet to make its way to either of Nintendo’s well-suited platforms. Regardless, this is welcome news for Telltale fans who prefer the Wii U. No release date has been announced, but Stauffer confirmed on Twitter that we will see the game (its premiere, at least) this fall.

What do you think? Is Telltale’s reunion with Nintendo a long-time coming, or a senseless and unnecessary move? Let us know in the comments.
