The Order: 1886 is being billed as an FPS action-adventure set in an alternate-universe rendition of London. The complete playthrough of The Order: 1886 shows off the linear-focused, narrative driven experience. Taking the account who leaked the gameplay approximately 9 hours to beat, the respectable length of The Order: 1886 is filled with beautiful locations to wander through and cover-based shooting reminiscent of The Last of Us. The camera is over-the-shoulder with a slight bob, giving a very immediate perspective to the playable character in The Order: 1886. This very cinematic styling of the game is in-line with the developers vision of the game. They are billing The Order: 1886 as a “filmic experience,” which is why you won’t be playing The Order: 1886 at 60fps on any console, as Ready at Dawn has stated that higher framerates are simply not part of their vision.

“We’re going for this filmic look, so one thing that we knew immediately was films run at 24 fps. We’re gonna run at 30 because 24 fps does not feel good to play. So there’s one concession in terms of making it aesthetically pleasing, because it just has to feel good to play. The escapism you get from a cinematic film image is just totally different than what you get from television framing, so that was something we took into consideration.”

The Order: 1886

If that’s the way they want to play it! Adding to this exceptionally “cinematic experience” in The Order: 1886 is the fact that all of the cutscenes seem to be unskippable. Joy. When added together, the cutscenes alone amount to nearly half of the nine-hour total of the game, meaning that there are only a solid 5 hours of gamplay.

What does this mean for gamers? Is the game any good? These are things only the individual can determine. Folks can watch the entire playthrough of The Order: 1886 via the videos at PlayMeThrough on Youtube. Or, if they’d rather hold out for a first-hand experience, The Order: 1886 will be debuting exclusively on the PS4 on February 20th.
