Keiji Inafune Drops Some New Details on ReCore

Robot dogs, who doesn't love that?

Last week at E3, one of the more surprising announcements was ReCorewhich is being co-developed by Keiji Inafune of Mega Man fame and Armature Studios. Its trailer showed a young woman and her robot dog going up against some mechanical enemies in a sandy, desolate land, and a lot of people were taken in by it, including us. Not a lot of details were given, but the game already looked intriuging just going off that trailer alone.

A new video interview from Xbox goes deeper into ReCore’s story with Inafune. The two main characters of the game that we saw in the trailer are Jewel and her robotic dog Mack. Mack finds her at the start of the game, and the two embark on a quest to bring humanity back to the planet. The world’s been populated by very few humans for a long time, so Mack has been pretty much all that Jewel’s had for years. Restoring humanity sounds like an easy gig, except for for the other faction of evil robots trying to kill them. And then, of course, there’s all the sand:

“One of the big features of this game is that the scenery completely changes after a sandstorm. This actually affects the maps in the gameplay.”

According to Inafune, ReCore’s main theme is about how Jewel’s going to survive in this world, which ties into her relationship with Mack and the other robots:

“The relationship between the friendly robots in the game and the enemy robots in the game, they get more volatile and deadlier as you go underground and find these areas. That’s where all the good stuff is, and that’s what you’re trying to explore.”

Just like in the trailer, Jewel will be able to remove Mack’s core and transfer it to other robots. His consciousness will remain, he’ll just be in a different form. Totally cool, right?

ReCore’s only been in development for 14 months, but after what we’ve seen, 2016 just feels even farther away.
