How Destiny: The Taken King’s Court of Oryx Public Events Will Work

Collect runes and kill bosses.

In today’s Twitch reveal from Bungie, community manager Deej along with fireteam Urk, Laced Up Lauren, and Ben Wommack showcased Destiny: The Taken King’s Court of Oryx. If you haven’t heard, the Court of Oryx is a new public event system located within Oryx’s Dreadnought.

In contrast to the way that all of Destiny’s previous public events have worked as random events, the Court of Oryx will be activated by players. As you fight enemies in the Dreadnought, you will have a chance to collect runes as drops. Once you have obtained these runes, you can hold on to them and then bring them to the Court of Oryx whenever you are ready to face a challenge. It’s a good idea to bring a fireteam and if you’re lucky there will be other fireteams there to help you as well.

Once inside the Court of Oryx, you will find yourself surrounded by several statues. Take the rune to the statue and then activate the public event. Once activate, you must complete the challenge and kill all enemies within the time limit in order to succeed and unlock loot. When you complete the challenge, the person who activated it will get the most loot but will then be on a short cooldown called summoner’s exhaustion before he/she can activate another rune. This ensures that other players will also have the chance to activate their runes as members of a fireteam switch back and forth between who will receive the loot bonus for activation.

When you complete a public event challenge in the Court of Oryx, in addition to a loot chest, you have the chance to acquire better runes. These give you access to Tier 2 and Tier 3 Court of Oryx challenges which provide better loot drops as rewards for completion. As you progress throughout challenges, they should rotate so that you do not face the same boss two times in a row. The challenges will be fast paced and force you to use teamwork to battle in the confines where finding cover is not easy and staying on the move is a must.
