The charity event Awesome Games Done Quick 2015 finished this morning raising over a million dollars in donations. The speed running spectacle started last Sunday showcasing savvy gamers as they slipped their way through save points and obstacles skillfully.
For those unfamiliar with Awesome Games Done Quick it is a bi-annual gaming marathon. They are a group of expert speed runners who live stream their runs for charity. Today was the end of the winter event, but if you missed it you can look forward to the next one in July.
After playing more than 150 titles the 160-hour marathon concluded, matching their last year total of $1 million, the group continues to bring in more watchers and donations with every showcasing.
All the proceeds earned went directly to the Prevent Cancer Foundation. A nonprofit organization that saves lives through cancer research, education and community outreach.
Just about every genre was covered during the event with games like Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Super Monkey Ball, Super Castlevania IV, Super Mario Sunshine, and the record breaking run of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The event is gaining popularity due to fact you can witness such record breaking runs and interact with the community.
