Gameplay Footage of Street Fighter’s Ryu in Super Smash Bros. Update Is Leaked

On the bright side, these leaks are getting me pumped for the game update!

It simply isn’t a good day for the PR department at Nintendo these days.

In what is shaping up to being a most extraordinary case of pre-E3 leakages this year, yet another one for Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. upcoming update has revealed itself recently. Earlier today, it was reported that Super Smash Bros. content extracted via data mining from a Japanese update patch of the game released prematurely revealed an extensive amount of in-game content – the most prominent news in which the characters Ryu (from Street Fighter) and Roy (from Fire Emblem) were confirmed as part of the game’s roster.

Yet another heavy-hitter in terms of spoilers has hit the web thanks to a YouTube video posted by user Nintendojo (with the original leaked footage credited to a Twitch streamer by the name of crediar) showcasing in-depth footage of Ryu’s gameplay and move set in Super Smash Bros.

There are many things to take in and point out in this gameplay video. As Nintendojo astutely observes, Ryu does indeed to be a highly mobile and agile character. The video showcases his classic special move-sets such as the Hadouken, Shoryuken, and Tatsumaki Senpukyaku. Additionally, the gameplay footage also shows that Ryu is able to utilize the Shinku Hadouken and the Shin Shouryuken, which is shown back to back starting at 0:28 in the video.

Other noteworthy elements to point out include the appearance of the iconic Street Fighter IV sumi-e paint stroke motion lines when Ryu is charging up for harder hitting melee attacks, and a set of movements that appear to be taunts – including Ryu turning his back to the camera and tightening his handband, pointing his hand to the enemy, and stomping down his leg into a deep fighting horse stance. With the inclusion of Nintendojo’s narration and the background music, it is unclear whether or not the original leaked footage included any stage music, sound effects, or sound bites belonging to Ryu.

With Nintendo planning to host their Nintendo Direct livestream, promising to unveil new Super Smash Bros. content, on Twitch and the e3.nintendo.com page tomorrow (on Sunday – June 14th, at 7:40 AM PT / 10:40 AM EST), it truly seems that Ryu’s official announcement by Nintendo is all but inevitable at this point. In the meanwhile, it is highly probable that Nintendo is working double-time to request and ensure videos and content to be taken down prior to its intended release schedule – so, if curiosity has gotten the best of you, check out this video as soon as possible!

What do you think of Ryu’s Super Smash Bros. leaked gameplay footage? What about his gameplay mechanics can you speculate from the video? Are you excited for his entry into the game roster? Feel free to comment and share below!
