Today the popular MOBA, Dota 2, broke the historical record on Steam for most concurrent players at any one time with a peak of 1,229,973. The over all peak of users was 8,513,524 for today. So that puts Dota 2 at 14.5% of steams concurrent users (14.44728410937703% to be exact).
Its closest competitor being Counter Strike: Global Offensive pulled in 442,763 concurrent players which is staggering third of Dota 2‘s players. How does Dota 2 fair against, arguably the most popular MOBA of all time, League of Legends in terms of player base? Let’s have a look.
Riot reports that 27 million people play the game daily, while concurrent players peak at 7.5M. In total, 67 million players play the game every month. All of these are enormous jumps from the already huge numbers from over a year ago. 27, Jan, 2014.
That is a shocking six times what Dota 2 brings in. Doubtless, this has no measure of which is the better game, only which is more popular. A very well earned victory for Dota 2 today.
