8 Cool Alternate Skins in Games You No Doubt Changed Into

More like FLAWLESS Deity Link!

Phazon Suit – Metroid Prime

phazon suit metroid

While the Phazon suit could be acquired during the storyline of the game, actually reaching the end of Metroid Prime is a feat in and of itself. For those of you who have beaten the game, you had to stomach difficult enemies, traverse strange ecosystems on Talon IV, and solve that ridiculous treasure hunt leading to the final fight of the game. Those warriors who managed to push through the difficulties had their patience rewarded with this sleek new armor that made Samus immune to the poisonous fumes of the Phazon and helped give her the upper-hand against Ridley in the final battle.

Spider-Man 2099 – Spider-Man (PSX)

Spider-Man 2099 in all its PlayStation glory

The Spider-Man 2099 skin is simply that – a skin for the normal Spider-Man character model. Sadly, you’re still controlling Peter Parker, not Miguel O’Hara, but at least you got a sweet new suit! All you had to do was collect the 35 comic books hidden throughout the game. Think you could stomach one final playthrough to show off your new threads to all the thugs on the streets of New York? If you collected them all, then yeah, probably.

Gold Armor – Super Ghouls N’ Ghosts

The Gold Armor

Super Ghouls N’ Ghosts is a special kind of hell. You will die a lot while playing this game. Over and over again. But, suddenly, you see something in the distance on-screen. The treasure chest you just cracked open dropped something. Is it what you think it is? It is! A moment of reprieve amongst the madness, an oasis in the desert of struggle. It’s the gold armor! Yeah, it’s technically a power-up, but hey, it’s still an alternate skin. This little armor upgrade could withstand two different hits (provided you didn’t get hit from behind), gave you a nifty little shield, and a magic attack. Yet, the promise of safety of the gold armor is ever fleeting. A goblin and bat later and Arthur is back down to his boxers.

Blood Dragon Armor – Mass Effect 2/3

Old meets new

Medieval knight meets futuristic space marine in this suit of armor for Shepard in Mass Effect 2 and 3. It is only available as a download for those who’ve played Dragon Age: Origins. You can pick up this sweet armor right at the start, and it ideally serves well for the duration of the game for players playing as Adepts, Engineers, or Sentinels. Plus, the armor just reeks of coolness.

Off-Duty Spacer Outfit – Mass Effect 2/3

Derek Zoolander meets Mad Max

There comes a time where you have to take off the Blood Dragon armor and just unwind with the rest of the crew. When that time comes, why not show off everything Shepard has to offer with this rugged Spacer outfit? Show the crew your adventurous side. And while you’re at it, put Shepard’s goods to use on the dance floor and watch him/her own the local space club. You will be the talk of the town.

Batman Beyond – Batman: Arkham City

Wish hard enough and Rock Steady might make a Batman Beyond game

This alternate outfit/skin is difficult to write about because it’s being written in a world where a Batman Beyond game does not exist. So live out the fantasy by playing Arkham City with this sexy outfit. Are you listening, Rock Steady?

Originally, this outfit could be acquired after drinking the toxic sludge that is NOS energy drinks. Since then the Game of the Year edition came out, which packed this skin in, allowing fans to relive the glory of Batman Beyond without intentionally poisoning their bodies.

Nintendo Themed Outfits – Bayonetta 2

It’s weird, it’s Nintendo, and it’s Bayonetta. It works.

If the story of Bayonetta 2‘s acquisition by Nintendo isn’t weird enough, how about the inclusion of several iconic Nintendo character outfits for Bayonetta to don? Players have their choice between Samus, Link, Fox, and Peach. Acquired through in-shop purchases, these outfits will cost a pretty penny of in-game currency. But you know you want them.

With the impending release of the Majora’s Mask 3DS remake coming in February, what better way to honor the game than by including the most powerful mask on this list? The Fierce Deity mask is acquired by collecting every non-transformable mask in the game, and giving them to one of the dream children at the end of the game. The cost is hefty, but so worth it. This mask transforms Link into what many fans hypothesize as a powerful Hylian warrior. The double-helix blade sends out beams of light that damage enemies, and make short work of Majora. Sadly, outside of glitches, the mask can only be used during boss fights.
