Pokemon GO’s Gen 2 update is finally available and it adds over 80 new Pokemon to the mix, though some are much rarer than others. We’re going to take a look at the rarest new additions that you can hope to encounter and catch for your collection as you continue to strive to be the very best in Pokemon GO
Rarest Gen 2 Pokemon in Pokemon GO
With the large influx of new monster, fans are out to once again fill up their Pokedexes with all of the monsters they can find out in the wild. Like in the original release, though, some are much rarer than others, so you’ll have to put in a bit more legwork. This list won’t include any Legendary Pokemon that are potentially part of the update, though will most likely be part of events. This will focus on Pokemon you can actually obtain right now.
Blissey
If you’ve been playing Pokemon GO for any amount of time, you’re undoubtedly aware of the rarity of Chansey. It’s a beautiful time when you run into one of these in the wild, and the rarity extends to its evolution, Blissey. You’ll have to keep an eye out for these, and don’t miss your chance of grabbing one when you can. but this isn’t the rarest gen 2 pokemon in pokemon go
Porygon2
Porygon2 isn’t going to make things any easier for fans of Pokemon than its predecessor did. Since it’s a normal type, you should be able to find one just about anywhere. However, it has a very low rate of actually popping up. Hope you like tons of Spearows and Ledyba’s as you hunt this one down.
Hitmontop
Fighting types aren’t the most common in Pokemon GO, though they do tend to pop up in crowded areas. Still, chances of encountering this little fella regularly are quite slim. They’re dangerous against many types including Normal, Ice, Rock, Dark, and Steel. No wonder they’re made more difficult to encounter.
Tyrogue
Hitmontop’s baby form (also the baby form of Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee) can only be found in an Egg. Obtaining Eggs isn’t the difficult part, but hatching each of them can become heavy on the heart as you get everything but the little fighter you’re seeking.
This Rock-type that happens to look like a tree has solid defense and attack, though it is lacking in other areas. It isn’t exactly common in areas where you’d normally find Rock-types, but it’s still challenging to find in Grass areas as well.
Heracross
One of the strongest new additions to Pokemon GO, this Bug/Fighting-type is not going to be found easily. It is strong against many types, including Fighting which is very useful. While they are rare, they can decimate most opponents, so that makes this one worth seeking out.
those are all the rarest gen 2 pokemon in pokemon go. let us know if you’ve caught any rare pokemon

Rarest Gen 2 Pokemon in Pokemon GO
With the large influx of new monsters, fans are out to once again fill up their Pokedexes with all the Gen 2 Pokemon they can find out in the wild. Like in the original release, though, some are much rarer than others, so you'll have to put in a bit more legwork. Here, we'll focus on Pokemon you can actually obtain right now. That means no Legendary Pokemon, as they will most likely be available in future events. Also, any Pokemon whose lowest form is common and isn't difficult to evolve won't be included.
Blissey
If you've been playing Pokemon GO for any amount of time, you're undoubtedly aware of the rarity of Chansey. It's a beautiful time when you run into one of these in the wild, and the rarity extends to its evolution, Blissey. You'll have to keep an eye out for these, and don't miss your chance of grabbing one when you can. It's going to be a while before you can catch a Chansey and gather enough candy for an evolve.
Porygon2
Porygon2 isn't going to make things any easier for fans of Pokemon than its predecessor did. Since it's a normal type, you should be able to find one just about anywhere. However, it has a very low rate of actually popping up. Hope you like tons of Spearows and Ledyba's as you hunt this one down. You can acquire one if you have a Porygon, an Up-Grade (a reward from Poke Stop spins), and enough candy for an evolution, but all of those ingredients are rare to come by.
Hitmontop
Fighting types aren't the most common in Pokemon GO, though they do tend to pop up in crowded areas. Still, chances of encountering this little fella regularly are quite slim. Fighting Pokemon are dangerous against many types, including Normal, Ice, Rock, Dark, and Steel. No wonder they're made more difficult to encounter.
Tyrogue
Hitmontop's baby form (also the baby form of Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee) can only be found in an Egg. Obtaining Eggs isn't the difficult part, but hatching each of them can become heavy on the heart as you get everything but the little fighter you're seeking.
Sudowoodo
This Rock-type that happens to look like a tree has solid defense and attack, though it is lacking in other areas. It isn't exactly common in places where you'd normally find Rock-types, but it's still challenging to find in Grass areas as well.
Heracross
One of the strongest new additions to Pokemon GO, this Bug/Fighting-type is not going to be found easily. It is strong against many types, including Fighting, which is very useful. While they are rare, they can decimate most opponents, so that makes this one worth seeking out.
Wobbuffet
Jesse's odd little Psychic-type buddy is among the rarest Pokemon in Pokemon GO. It's not elemental, so figuring out an area to find one isn't so easy. They can be countered just about anywhere.
They are far from being the most powerful, though they do have a decent health pool. Still, if you need to have your favorite anime regulars in your collection, you have to just keep your fingers crossed and eyes open.
Skarmory
Skarmory is a Steel/Flying-type Pokemon that was just introduced to Pokemon GO with its Gen II update. It has decent attack, but excels at defense with complete immunity to Poison and Ground, and taking half damage from most other types. It is weak to Fire and Electric, but that can be balanced out with a good team. It can be found anywhere, which is a good thing. Unfortunately, it doesn't pop up very often, and is one of the rarest creatures in the entire game at the moment.
Shuckle
We're not entirely sure why Shuckle is so rare in Pokemon GO. Its dual-typing does eliminate some of the more troublesome Bug weaknesses (such as the overly-common Flying types), but it's one of the weakest new Pokemon introduced to the game. Still, you can hope to encounter it anywhere you'd normally find a bug or rock type, such as in parks.
Slowking
Slowking is one of the more balanced new additions to to the game, even with its long list of weaknesses. It evolves from Slowbro, which is also relatively rare, but encountering one in the wild is a miracle, although it's one that does indeed happen. Thanks to its Water-typing, you at least have an idea of where to seek this one out, but prepare for a lot of Magikarps before this one rears its head.
Kingdra
If you have a Seadra and a Dragon Scale already, then you're in the clear. Those still struggling to get a Horsea or Seadra, though, are not so fortunate. This Water/Dragon type is extraordinarily uncommon to encounter in Pokemon GO, so find a pond you like and stay close.
Scizor
Scizor is rare on two fronts, as an evolution and as a wild encounter. For the evolution route you'll first need a Scyther (which is also quite rare), as well as candy and a new item called a Metal Coat. Those have a small chance of dropping from Poke Stops, so you'll have to farm stops for quite a bit. As far as encountering this Bug/Steel-type, good luck. It will show up in the usual Bug spots, but its chance of appearing is very low.
Steelix
Steelix is also obtained by using Metal Coat for evolution. You may have a higher chance of finding a Metal Coat than you do encountering this Steel/Ground-type in the wild while Playing Pokemon GO.
Bellossom
Bellossom is a Gloom evolution that was added in Pokemon Gen II. You can search grassy areas to hope to encounter one in the wild, though this new form is very rare. You can also try your luck at Poke Stops in the hopes that you'll get a Sun Stone, which you can give to a Gloom along with some candy to get a Bellossom.
Togepi
Togepi is another Egg-exclusive in Pokemon GO, and seems to be slightly more common in Eggs that require higher distances. Still, it's fairly rare, and you'll likely have to hatch numerous eggs before grabbing this one.
Togetic
This Fairy/Flying-type Pokemon is rare mainly because its baby form is an egg exclusive. That makes evolving a Togetic a mission as you hatch countless eggs to gather enough candy. However, finding one in the wild is even more rare. Its Flying type doesn't help much with locating one, as those can be found just about anywhere, and the same goes for Fairy-types.
Politoed
Politoed is the Gen II addition to the Poliwag family. It requires a King's Rock and a Poliwhirl if you want to get one through evolution. The King's Rock is a rare drop from Poke Stops, so you're going to have to rely on RNG. You can search around areas with bodies of water nearby in the hopes of finding one, but not many players are getting lucky that way.
Smeargle
Smeargle only has one weakness: Fighting-types. Their rarity makes Smeargle a useful Pokemon for a time, even if it is among the weakest not only in the new update, but out of all the Pokemon in the game. It's a Normal type, which doesn't help with locating one as that means it can technically be found anywhere, but that doesn't seem to be giving anyone any luck.
Crobat
This may come as a surprise, because you've undoubtedly faced off against more Zubats and Golbats than you could've every possibly wanted, but this final evolution introduced in Pokemon Gen II is very rare to encounter.
