Every Overwatch Character’s Real Name and Where They’re From
Overwatch has a ton of interesting and unique characters hailing from all over the world. Players may not realize this while just running around and shooting their fellow heroes in the face. It’s good to sometimes stop from the action and find out who the Overwatch heroes are without the bullets, witty remarks, and constant mayhem. They’re people, just like you and me. Well, except Bastion, Winston, and Zenyatta. That’s two bots and a gorilla, although he’s a very smart gorilla. But I forget myself… what was I saying?
Ah yes, the heroes in Overwatch are people too. They have names and families and homes. Blizzard put in a lot of effort to give them all backstories and a purpose. So why not take the time to find out a little bit about who they are. Hey, you may find out that you all have something in common. You might share a name with someone who isn’t Bastion (because seriously, how could you?). You may be from Austrailia just like Roadhog and Junkrat. Or you may just be a zany cartoon character with a penchant for teleporting and blowing people up while you try to capture objective points and activate your ultimate just so you can mutter the words “Die! Die! Die!”

Genji
Genji's full name is Genji Shimada and he's from the Shambali Monastery located in Nepal.
McCree
This overwatch sharpshooter's real name is Jesse McCree. He's from Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Pharah
Overwatch's protector of the innocent, whose real name is Fareeha Amari, hails from Giza, Egypt. But she'll wreck you anywhere in the world.
Reaper
Reaper's real name is actually Gabriel Reyes, although you'd have to do some digging to find out. Where he is from, though, is unknown.
Soldier: 76
Soldier: 76 may look like he escaped from a Call of Duty game, but in actuality, his name is John Morrison, and he's from Indiana. So there's that.
Tracer
Tracer's real name is Lena Oxton and she's from London, England.
Bastion
You'd be surprised to learn that Bastion has a real name, and it's kind of long. Meet SST Laboratories Siege Automaton E54, Bastion. His base of operations is unknown.
Hanzo
Hanzo Shimada is Genji's older brother. He doesn't operate out of the same nation though, choosing to instead carry out his work from Hanamura, Japan.
Junkrat
This Overwatch defender's real name is Jamison Fawkes and he's from Junkertown, Australia (now we see where he got the nickname).
Mei
Mei's full name is Mei-Ling Zhou. This Overwatch ice queen is from Xi'an, China.
Torbjorn
His full name is Torbjorn Lindholm, and he's from Gothenburg, Sweden. That may be where he learned how to design weapons for Overwatch.
Widowmaker
This assassin's true name is Amelie Lacroix and she's from Annecy, France. Although, due to her occupation of choice, you may want to take that information with a grain of salt.
D.Va
D.Va is actually Hana Song, gamer extraordinaire from Busan, South Korea. She's switch to a new game, Overwatch, so she can wreck fools.
Reinhardt
The tank from Stuttgart, Germany's real name is Reinhardt Wilhelm.
Roadhog
Mako Rutledge is from the same town as Junkrat, Junkertown, Australia.
Winston
Winston likes to keep things simple, probably because he's a really smart gorilla working for Overwatch. Winston is in fact his real name and he's from the Horizon Lunar Colony.
Zarya
Zarya is just part of her last name. Her full name is Aleksandra Zaryanova and she operates out of Krasnoyarsk Front, Russia.
Lucio
Lucio Correia dos Santos is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. If you couldn't tell, he's a DJ.
Mercy
Mercy's true name is Angela Zielgler (she would be named Angela), and she's from Zurich, Switzerland. Now she spends her time roaming the world healing players like me.
Symmetra
Satya Vaswani hails from Utopaea, India.
Zenyatta
Zenyatta is just his last name, his full name is Tekhartha Zenyatta. He's an Omnic Robot, but he operates out of the Shambali Monastery in Nepal, where he found a home after the Omnic Crisis.
